i don't understand why everyone is so down on certain OSes. use what works for you. if you understand and like Linux, use Linux. if you have cash to burn, or want a simplified OS, run OSX, and if you just want to get online and game with the most recent hardware, then Windows. all the stupid arguments in the world aren't going to change anyone's opinions, so all that's happening is negative press for all three, (well, maybe not Linux, more like no press) and that hurts personal computing on all platforms.

it shouldn't be 3 factions of PC users, we should all be PC users.
besides, why do you care what Joe Schmoe is using all the way in seattle if you're in NYC? don't you people have better things to do then argue semantics with each other?

in the end, we will all use what we want. and that won't change.

me? i run Vista x64 SP1. and you know what? with a solid antivirus, and decent malware protection, it's just dandy. haven't had an issue yet. not a single one. I wouldn't go back to OSX if you paid me. and Linux is nice , but i'm a gamer, and i refuse to waste my time emulating the games i want to play.

This article cracked me up. Apparently the author either completely forgot the interview he did with Dino A. Dai Zovi, one of the best security experts in the industry, whom specifically stated Vista was the most secure OS. He also apparently forgot what a vulnerability was, stated that vista, "...will always be one of the most vulnerable operating systems on the market today", which directly contradicts what Dino stated in his interview.

I personally hate Apple on matters of principal, mainly because of the elitism and implied moral, ethical, and intellectual superiority that Apple feeds to their mindless sheep, who lap it up with wide, vacant eyes. I accept that, as the author said, once you conform to the Apple mindset, you get ease of use (which is extremely funny, given the implied elitism and intellectualism, you would think that they wouldnt need to have such an easy to use system). I accept that Mac's are currently targetted less by malware and viruses (which makes perfect sense, if im going to bother to write a virus i would want it to infect as large a userbase as possible, and that ain't mac), what i dont accept is the constant statement the article makes that imply that Macs are "more secure" than windows based PCs. That is simply not true and is just more farce spewed by the marketing dept of apple, and regurgitated by the herd.

What i find amusing is that if you simply took the userbases of windows and mac, and swapped them, now allowing the malware and virus writers to have access to a system as insecure as OSX, Apple would be in it so far over their head it would be unbelievable. The vast majority of OSX and earlier OS releases would be brought to their knees.

Anyways, im starting to ramble. I'm just getting tired of the honeymoon phase love articles being written by mr. Dang in which it is painfully obvious he is having to quell his gushing about the greatness that is mac/apple down to a dull torrent to write an article for a site directed at PC enthusiasts. Although once again i'm starting to find myself here less and less.

Tomshardware used to be the very first site i loaded up when i booted up my comp, now i spend more time over at Anandtech, where, although the content creation is far slower, what is there is of vastly superior quality, at least when it comes to op-ed's like this. I still respect toms when it comes to hardware reviews, but thats about it.

I see some good and bad posts. Basically, a person should use whatever hardware or software serves their needs. I like OS X but apple is too expensive. I like Ubuntu and other Linux distros as well but they often have bugs in new releases and limited driver support for things like wireless network cards. Windows I like for the "old glove" familiarity of using it for years and knowing how to do everything that i need to without much fuss. However, the vulnerability to malware is a downer and I don't care that its 80%+ of the market M$ should be able to address this problem better than they have. However, I will say that Vista is the most reliable Windows OS I have used yet even though it runs SLOWER on my current hardware than XP. I like it OK anyway. Everything is a trade off and what you get depends on what you need to do with it or want to do.

Stop using this term "PC" when you are referring to Windows vs Mac. PC is the architecture. It has nothing to do with the OS. Linux runs on PC too. So does the Mac.
