Vertical Lines Visible in Dark Areas on QD-OLED Monitor (Especially When Moving Camera in Games)

Hey everyone,

I've been noticing vertical lines on my monitor, which I just bought this week, particularly in darker areas when playing games. The effect becomes much more visible in a dark room. When I move the camera in-game, some lines appear darker and more prominent, especially on the left side of the screen.


I read on Rtings that vertical lines in dark areas are a known characteristic of QD-OLED panels, but what I’m seeing seems more pronounced—certain lines stand out more when moving the camera. Here’s a video showing the effect in a dark environment:

In Ghostrunner 2, I noticed a particular vertical line that can be noticed even in this slightly lighter area and solid color when you look for it. This one appears a bit brighter than the surrounding screen, though it is hard to see on the camera too.

Also, weirdly enough, this isn't very noticeable if at all on static gray colors or even when scrolling on apps with gray backgrounds. like discord background or ChatGPT dark mode background

it is pretty noticeable on the 5% grey test

is this normal for OLED?

This can't be judged by using video game material that's artificially generated since it may just be a deficiency in the programming or video driver for that game. It would be better to evaluate this using uhd movie images.

Um, IDK, I have an LG 27EP950 which supposedly is a real professional OLED monitor and there are times when I think I see slight variances in the image that might be similar to yours, although mine seem to be mostly horizontal. But I don't know if there are any specs for uniformity of the OLED image other than things like a brightness range, with mine being (Typ.) 250 cd/m² / (Min.) 230 cd/m². I also don't know how anyone would measure individual areas of the screen for brightness variations or how anyone would determine if a specific area of the screen is not within those specs.

But if you feel your monitor isn't meeting its specs then you should certainly return it under warranty.

You are using the pixel refresh routine *regularly? I know it’s a stupid question but after 2 years I still see no bad areas on my Samsung S95b OLED.
