Thermalright XP-120

I just replaced the stock AMD HSF with the Thermalright XP-120. I am less than impressed with the results however. Idle and load temps are nearly identical at 33 and 58 degrees respectively. Do I need to try remounting it or are these results typical?

I have an Athlon X2 4400+ @ 2.62 GHz and 1.55 Vcore.

Any suggestions?

Did you clean off all the old thermal compound with something like 91% isopropyll alcohol, then re-apply new compound? Since you just did it, you might need to let it settle for a while (200 thermal cycles, or something like that...)

My thermostat stays set at 74 F. I didnt think to clean the old compound using alochol though. Do you really think that could be the cause of such high temps? Maybe I need to get a little more extreme and go for water cooling 8)

If you just mounted the XP-120 with the original TIM, those temps aren't bad. What fan did you put on the XP-120?

I cleaned it, just not using rubbing alochol. As for the fan, its a 120mm rated at 74CFM.
