The bottom PSU layout seemed to start around the BTX time when case designers were paying more attention to airflow.

Thermally it seems like a sound idea to have the fans blowing up, but it's dangerous without a shield of some sort. Who doesn't set a drink or book on their case from time to time. It's much better to vent out the back or the side.

The Thermaltake V3 BlackX Edition is a new model in the V3 series. The first press release was published this morning at numerous hardware review sites. This particular version can accomodate all ITX motherboards. I guess that's why it is considered to be new.

[citation][nom]Hellbound[/nom]Power supply on the bottom is not a new concept..btw, video card in the picture looks like an 8800gtx.[/citation]

Did the 8800gtx have two 6pin pci power connections?

Yes, it did. I was a poor college student and couldn't afford the 8800GTX (back in 2007) at the time so I got the 320MB 8800GTS with only a single 6-pin.

!!!BREAKING NEWS!!!

Silverstone Case Has Motherboard Rotated 90 Degrees, Fans on Bottom.

Pricing unknown so stay tuned...or go to Newegg.

Okay after reading some comments I see I'm not alone. What is the point of this article, it seems like an advertisement or something? I'm pretty sure any case that costs more than $30 nowadays has the PSU mounted on the bottom. Or it's a weird coincidence that every case I've seen in the last 5 years has this "feature".

So extra dremel holes and it's a new case?!
It's like Antec 300 Illusion. I wonder WTF is the difference between the Illusion and the regular 300. Turns out the Illusion is the exact same case, but comes with case fans installed. Talk about some new feature!

I have done several builds and Thermaltake have bottom mounted PSU in several cases for years.
These are some of these Thermaltake cases, for that person (KP) whom have been leaving under a rock.
Thermaltake Armor A90
Thermaltake Element G
Thermaltake Element T
Thermaltake NVIDIA Edition
Thermaltake V4
Thermaltake V6
Thermaltake V9
Thermaltake Armor A60
Etc...

Rofl, alright, good. I was worried that I'd be the only one to notice how outdated this is. My Antec 900 case, that i used to build my desktop 3 years ago has PSU on bottom...

So I was reading this on my smartphone and I switched to the desktop view just so I can read the comments. My guess is that their is some new marketing employee who doesn't know much about "case evolution" but they were marketwise enough to pay toms to post this article

[citation][nom]eklipz330[/nom]Kevin is trolling?[/citation]
If one takes Kevin's article history into consideration, then it is likely that he is not trolling, and all of this is, indeed, new to him.

[citation][nom]exfileme[/nom]Thermaltake's PR is dated for today, and this particular case is NOT listed on the USA website. I'm not sure why everyone thinks this case is old.[/citation]

A case with a bottom mounted PSU and top mounted fans is not a worthy news release on October 2011.

[citation][nom]exfileme[/nom]I don't see the Thermaltake V3 BlacX Edition on Newegg either, just the V3 Black Edition cases.[/citation]

Imagine if you went to a car website (say, Car & Driver) and they had an article, titled "New Ford has Drivers-Side Airbags"
