Won't keep 1st place for long, lots of deserving folders breathing down my neck !

Joined THGC way back when early Willamettes and late Thunderbirds were stomping the prehistoric grounds, even though I'm just lurking here every once in a while, I learned a whole lot from this forum, to keep folding for this team is the very least I can do.

Next milestone for me is to hit the top 1000 folders.

I remember Entity jumping in at some point and climb up the latter like no bodies business.

What do you have under you hood? you stripping some PS3's of the CPUs?... never mind that. i see what you mean about the others though.


DoubleD appears to have plugged into some monstrous server in the last couple mths... Can he keep that up to pass you?

what ever the Case, Congrats on the #1 placement! and good luck on the top 1000! that might be a year from now, but if you do get there you sure as hell deserve something for it.
 
Hey guys! First time posting here, and also my first computer build.i need help with my configuration,some suggestions. I'm interested in 3d rendering and my budget is around 700$


Motherboard:Asrock P43DE
Processor:Intel Core2 Quad Q8300 2500MHz
HDD: Western Digital Caviar Green 640GB
DDR:Corsair 4GB DDR2 800MHZ CL5 XMS2 DUAL CHANNEL
GPU: HIS ATI Radeon HD3870 IceQ3 512MB DDR4 256-bit

I'd be very interested to see other peoples folding set-ups.

I've installed and am running the folding software on my two PC's in the last day or so, so team 40051 has another folder! One PC is switched on 24/7 (it's used as a media center) and the other is on 16 hours a day ish. Not sure how much affect it will have on Toms team effort though! Any info on getting fater-folding would be interesting to hear!
 
Been a member here for awhile but just joined the TH F@H team. Not sure if I have everything set up correctly but I think I am only running the cpu version. I'll eventually get it set up correctly but as it stands I finished my first WU this weekend.

Q9550 @ 3.5ghz
4 x 2gb DDR2 1066
HD 4850, I am going to upgrade this to the GTX 275 or HD4890 this week. Leave the 4850 for folding.

I have a 2nd app running on our home laptop but it is really freakin slow. I think it is actually giving me negative ppd.
 
Looks like it is time to start slowing down for the summer. Dropping it off from around 10,000 PPD to about 2,000 PPD for the summer. Can't afford to pay for the power twice, once to fold and again for the AC to pump the heat out of the house. The heat was great in during the winter :) , not so great in the summer. :fou:

Will leave 4 or 5 machines in the basement running to keep mold and mildew away. Might as well fold, would need to run a dehumidifier otherwise. :)

Will be cranking it up again this fall. :wahoo:

Ohla I am running up the ranks got to 28 wohoo turned on 4 gpu folders and gained 100000 points in a month dang didn't know it was that big a diffrence 1500 a day for CPU and 15 to 20000 every 4 hours for GPU dang.

Just joined the TH f@h team today. Problem is I've got a 3.55 quad-core and I'd like to use 2 of my cores for folding but I'm a little computer illiterate.lol I read an article on how to do it that was written several years ago and now I'm really confused. I'd like to save my graphics card and 2 cores for gaming and fold w/ the other two. ( if this is even possible) Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Well I am Folding the hech out of whatever I am folding :) been folding on CPU's for 2 years here and it was slow going running about 15 clients or so. I just added 5 GPU2 clients a few months ago and wow just insand done what it took 2 years to do and doubled it in 4 months or so LOL. Folding on 2 8800GTX's 2 9600GT's and a 8600GTS amasingly the GTS is only a few PPD behind the 9600's that supprised me. When all are running I can hit about 20,000 PPD but my office hits 82 deg F so mainly run the 2 8800gtx's for between 9 and 10 K PPD yeah in 26 place getting hard to catch anyone in the top 20 people are just crankin away.
 
What is up with this thread? All I can see is page 46, and then nothing, though I still get notifications. When post a reply, I can read the rest of the posts. Randomizer, I don't know who gave you mod privileges, but this thread should be stickied. Anyone know WTF is going on?
 
Figured I'd try to bring this post back to life to help bring some more awareness about Folding w/ Toms. :) Especially considering we are losing more than gaining on the Top 100.

Sorry if this is the wrong place/time or if I should have started a new one. =P

BTW I started folding [as 'Raidur_TH'] for Tom a couple days ago with the config in my sig, and I am going to throw in my mom's PC (Q6600/8800GT) in a day or 2.
 
I just wanted to add my 2 (hidden) cents here to say:
1) No one can read your posts on this thread unless they reply
2) Tom's doesn't care about folders because:
a) they have not replaced our only home i.e. this sticky
b) they have tons of random, useless forums ("Sports and Wellness" on Tomshardware? Really??), but absolutely nothing dedicated to folding
c) they haven't plugged folding in ages
d) they will not respond to requests for folders for any space whatsoever

So if you are new, do yourself a favor and go fold somewhere else. Toms won't miss you. They could care less. It is not giving back, so don't bother. Go somewhere where you will be appreciated.
 
cunninglinguist, I am all to happy to replace the original sticky with a new one but there is no thread to sticky right now. I don't know enough about folding, nor do I have the time, to write a sticky myself. No information is better than misinformation as far as I'm concerned.
 
In fact, if you check the thread you made complaining that this thread was unstickied in the first place, you'll see that I already said that I'd sticky a new thread back in June, but it was never made. I can't sticky nothing.
