ha, whats wrong with australia? And I need a new power supply anyway, it's too small. I guess it's a good way to feel good about getting a new one.

oh yeah, and i forgot to mention the coming internet censoring, which has a mere side effect of reducing our already blazingly fast internet by up to 86%. yay.

heyo, just finished system and decided to fold and join team 40051 heh..not completely sure how to optimize it, using gpu2 w/ radeon hd 4870 795/1000 right now..theres an e8500 @ 4ghz thats waiting to be used to but haven't had a chance to set that up yet..any help with configuring smp would be appreciated :)

What OS are you running?

Welcome aboard and thank you for your contribution.

Well you basically have two options:
1) install 1 or 2 regular clients probably worth 200-300PPD each
Advantages:
Very easy installation
Run as service

2) Install the SMP client probably get 1000PPD
Harder install
Much harder to run as service, though not impossible
For 32-bit OS's, you would run the DEINO version of the SMP cleint.
BTW don't forget to run the client with the "-smp -deino" flags
For Vista 64 you would choose the MPICH version.
Whichever option you choose, if the GPU is going to share a core with another client you have to set the priority higher on the GPU configuration.

It's a good idea to install fahmon or another monitoring program to keep an eye on PPD output, just to make sure everything is installed properly.

Check out the official folding forums for more info.

Running vista with ATI your CPU usage should be relatively low for the GPU client. Realistically that leaves you two cores. Personally, I run SMP and the GPU with a AMD dual core. I love that I'm doing something that benefits science/humanity, but I'm in it for the points (also a reflection of how much work you are doing). SMP + GPU will result in the most points.

Let me know if you need any more help.

Hi just wanted to introduce myself on the forums.
I have been referred to your site many times in my recent search for a new dream custom gaming pc, for hardware advice, reveiws etc (first build;P) so i thought id join up and help the forums for a change!

Currently got and old AMD 3000+ @2.2gig, Pentium D 2x3gig and a PS3 all folding 24/7 for the team, the PS3 will have to go off for a bit soon tho i recon, its a bit hot now after 7 days non stop but will prob fold overnight with it i.e after work folding starts and then off again in the mornings as of tomorrow, but the pc's go non stop though i think the PS3 net's me more points.

I like the idea that this is all towards something that one day may help me or you (im thinkin more me, but....lol) live a bit longer, not get ill in the first place or cure us if we do get ill.

Good job to all the folders who have put the team in the top 100 and as these forums have helped me and im sure many others in one way or another im proud to fold for Tom's!!

Sorry, ramblings over now, ill leave you all in peace. Happy Folding!! and New Year!

Welcome, good to have you!

Welcome! Good to have you on board.

I tried the deino client on a second computer and I didn't like it so much, I didn't even bother setting up the machine. I personally run the mpich on my computer and love it. Just be sure to use the -smp flag when setting it up. Also, I've heard that the mpich is more stable, not sure if it's true or not. Which ever you chose, then drag and drop in the 6.23 drop-in binary. Good luck!

My bad. 64 bit OS is MPICH

I don't have any first hand experience with it, but it looks like the set up is slightly easier.

sigh. i will fold for the team then. which to get: GPU2+CPU or GPU2+SMT or what??

xp 32 bit 9600GT e5200 (oc to 3.7ghz shortly. i lost my oc after a bios flash, but i know it can do it.)

I saw that too. I have mixed feeling about that to be honest. I don't mind that it looks like I will be #1 in the next 2 days, I just wish it wasn't because someone else apparently quit.

I have a 260GTX not on a mobo yet, but that will be this weekend before i can mess with that.

I'll be first in line for a 295GTX when they come out next week. I'm hoping to kick my ppd up to about 25k.

Right now I'm running GPU clients only. I suppose I should should get some CPU clients running on those computers, but I've been holding off because of the PPD per watt advantage the GPU client holds over the CPU. We'll see.

I have a spare computer I could start folding but it won't be on all the time. It is a 5400+ @ 3.2ghz running xp. I set up 2 single clients on it and only got like 250ppd on each. I was wondering if it would be better to set up 2 clients since it is a dual core or to run an smp client? Too bad it's gpu is integrated and only got like 30ppd. I'm going to use the cpu only and have it start automatically when the computer starts. When I tried it before, I got both of them to start up but when the computer shutdown via the shutdown button without quitting out of the clients first, both clients started at 0% when started back up on the next reboot. Anyone know a way to shutdown the computer without quitting out of the clients first? Maybe a batch file to run ctrl + C on the programs when shutting down? Thanks.
