@stephan: The only problem with that is that corporation is so huge, it would be take a change in corporate policy. Even if there was a single admin! The security guys are so paranoid there that they block most websites, AIM, Gtalk (WTF?), and a ton of other things... Thus is policy though.

I'm in a similar corp... - I didn't talk to the "admin-dept.", but I talked to the very guy, who administrates a distict "test-proxy"... - so I didn't try and change the whole policy, I just found a small loophole... (and I can't just roll it out to a whole subnet-mask or something like that, 't is a strictly low-key thing...)

I've got a question to anyone who can answer:
is it possible to submit 9 WU and only get 117 points? the problem is, none of my home rigs submitted yesterday (so this has to be my brother submitting), so i'm stumped as to how it can take that many WU's to get that little points!?!?! recently my brother has been submitting plenty of 44 pointers (i've seen them pop up every 6-7 hours when he does get them) and 9 of them would be plenty more then 117 points, the wierdest part is, they were all withing the same "update" (within the same 3 hours), check the date 06/04/06 (yesterday)

Yeah I wonder how it works as well like right now actualy since my fist post I got this job 10,000 frames is that large or something (my PC has been chewing on it for like 2 1/2 days and its like 40% done) I hope thats some good points lol
 
I've had 50,000 frame ones before.(assuming you are looking at the gui that pops up when you double click the FAH icon in the taskbar). Don't get your hopes up for alot of points however.
 
take a look at this site for the points on projects (and deadlines), it is better layed out then the one directly on the stanford site (with the links or the 'search' type thing)

A). A WU (or a batch of them) could have crashed. Standford could have sent a bad batch or your systems could have crashed at the same time (are they on the same network?) I've seen incomplete WUs come in at 1 and 22 points; there is probably a range in between. The only way to test that theory would be to look at the logs.

B). There was a discrepency between the stats page (extreme) and Stanfords records that was corrected (or vice-versa).

C). None of the above.

It's strange that no one else's records seem off that day.
 
yeah its still chewing on it :) at 5200 out of 10000 !!! Pretty cool so far :) oh I did change the priority from low to normal is that a good thing ? (it seems to go a little faster)

Adjusting the priority shouldn't change anything. The CPU still processes everything else before using cycles for F@H. That setting was designed so that F@H could still work if you were running another distributed computing client such as SETI@HOME (which is now part of BIONIC).

What kind of computer do you have?

There is some good info buried here in some obscure part of the forumZ.

i only have one system apart from the ones at home, that system, i unfortunately can't check because it's my brothers rig (who is in another country), and i don't want to annoy him with such small details, i'll pass it off this time, but i'll look into it if it happens again...

Well im on a 805D OCed to 3.6Ghz and 1GB of DDR2 @ something like 630Mhz lol (its OCed a little but any more and the timmings are all wronge) I would mention the rest of the specs but I dont think they would matter too much ? Yeah im looking at that link now :) Also when I get around to it im gonna install it on a couple of Athlon 64 3500's I have here so that will help me alot (and possibly use less electricity in the process lol) oh im checking that page out now :)
 
Do you have 2 instances of FAH running?
A dual core CPU can run 2 instances of FAH, one on each core.
If you only have one, install FAH in a different directory (make sure it is the console client, you cannot run two graphical versions).
Copy your client.cfg from the first directory to the second. It should look something like:

Just edit the machine ID to 2 (machineid=2) for the second instance.
Then setup that one to run in the same way that the other fires up: manually, as a service, etc.
If you are already doing this, please disregard this post.

If not, you should double your output on that machine.

If your proc has HT, you can conceivably run 4 instances, but Stanford frowns on it, and you don't get that much more output. It's probably not worth it.

Actualy no I dont have 2 running on this machine I like to keep one free for my entertainment :) but is there a difference in speed with the non graphical client ? I loaded it on one of my Athlon 64's (3500+ with 1GB of DDR400) I used the text version as im still leary of Vista :) I also have it running on my old 3Ghz northwood 1GB of Kingston HyperX.

Anyway I think the Athlon Vista machine is about to complete a large WU today or early monday. I think its doing slightly faster then my graphical one running on the XP Pro 805... (I like to hide it in the task bar)
 
I believe the consenus is that the graphical client is slower.

However, the 3500+ is going to spank that 805d every time. Your Athlon is by far the superior cpu in this case. Keep in mind, I'm not an AMD or an Intel foamer.
I'm running 2, (in sig) Amd machines now, and I've got about half of the stuff I need to get my own 805d running. I'll probably switch to Conroe when I find a good deal on a good chip. They are both socket 775 aren't they? Pretty sure they are. Ah even if they aren't I'll build one anyway.

Course when AMD comes along with a hotter platform than the Conroe I'll build one of those too, (yes I'm a compulsive pc builder and I know I need help :) ). It's all about the price/performance ratio for me. Blind brand loyalty will just ensure that you end up with an overpriced under performer.
 
If you install it as a service, you can always type "services.msc" in a run box, and pause one or both of them. I mean how much "entertainment" do you need when you are sleeping?

lol well I supppose I could :) you ever hear the CPU fan that comes with the P4D's ? its realy quiet as long as you dont hit that thermal thing that "Kicks it up a notch" sounds like my computer is throttling up for take off if you know what I mean :) (two instances of Folding probably wouldnt cause that but when the virus scanner does its scheduled scan it does I still do not know why the virus scanner eats up so much cpu time....)
 
i've heard the stock fan at full speed (usually is at full speed), but i'm lucky (if you consider it that) that i have a mildly noisy air conditioner (it's louder then the computer completely), even though i've gotten used to it, i can still hear a whining in the middle of the night sometimes (F@H overnight). if the noise is something you can't bear, try getting a bigger (lower rpm) HSF (120mm) i'm hoping to ditch the stock cooler after this summer... just hope :)

some virus scanners are just resource hog's (the last version of Norton i tried... (was it '05?)) i prefer AVG.. don't hog too much, but i've never had it on this machine, so i don't know if it causes the damn thing to rev up.

what are your temps BTW? just curious: i'm 43-44 idle and 67-70 under load (depends on ambient temperature)

I think my idle temps are about 51C (depends on what the AC is set at lol) and loads can hit up to 71C if I go crazy and do some P2P and folding and some other stuff at the same time. yeah I havent used Nortons in a long long time (although I still swear by ghost) Im using AVG too :) its good its free and I use the updates on Hiren's boot CD to scan with the scanners on that about once a month, Oddly enough once in a while those pick up a few things AVG misses (nothing too horid just random crud and some might be false positives) Yeah the bigger fan moving slower is a good thing I replaced one of my case fans and it helped alot. 120mm HSF hmmm shouldnt be a problem my mobo looked pretty clean when I installed it :)

Just had an odd thought I have an old northwood and the fan on that seems to be about half the noise. What happened with Intel and that ?
 
Folding has been around for a while (anyone know how long?). As far as anyone knows, there is no way to remove a team member. You are given credit for work done even if you stop folding. It's important to remember that this is volunteer work; we donate CPU cycles, which mean ware & tare on a machine, electricity, time, etc.

I had the bug pretty bad for a while. I had 35+ diskless p3 clients running 24/7 (I was aiming for 100, but an unexpected financial situation came along). It required a dedicated room, extra ventilation, a rather expensive switch, an increased electric bill, and the cost of the units themselves.

The bottom line is that it is a donation. I still fold, but not as much as I used to.

Just my 2 pennies.
 
I'm in the early stages of packing to move. I'm currently down to 2 PCs. The weird thing is that my average only dropped about 30% with 4 fewer PCs? I guess I know which ones are doing the work 😱) I don't know how the scoring works, but I don't have any problem saying that their scoring system sucks.
