congrats out to EA for breaking the 600,000 barrier (within the last update)

i'm sure there are more people though, sorry for not mentioning

so, how much would my pentium3 933mhz with 256 ram and an fx5500 contribute?

cant u use the potential of ur graphics card, doesnt it have a lot of floating point power?

can this be done over a dial up connection?
if it takes thaT MUCH COMPUTING POWER TO FIND THESE "FOLDINGS", the data packets are probably very big, right?
to big for dial up?

Afaik, only the latest graphics cards, such as ATI's X1900XTs, meet the requirements of the latest beta available for download at Stanford's website. Nvidia's cards are not supported now, due to some reasons which I am not very sure.

At their url, http://folding.stanford.edu/faq.html you can find out a lot of information which may answer all of your doubts.

According to the FAQ, you can use dial-up. As for the data packets, as long as you do not select Large WUs in the Folding at home control panel, I believe the data packets will not be too big to download.

However, I do not currently use dial up, so I do not know the average time needed for dial-up to download the data packets. I am sure there will be others here who can answer your question.

I've now got 3 computers folding away  A 3.06Ghz P4 Northwood Laptop, A 2.8Ghz P4 Celeron and a 3200+ Venice @ 2.8ghz...

I'm going to hit management up at work to see if they will let me install it on the 4 work servers (IBM x336 Servers, 4 cores each at 3.2Ghz) 8)

hmm i just got this installed...seems like a great cause.

i wonder if my school will let me install it on all 150 computers ???? 😀

i have a quesiton, mine has been stuck on 0/50000 steps, how long does it take to complete a step?

Well... it varies. Depends on the computer speed and which folding core you are currently running. It ranges from a few minutes to as much as 3 hours, possibly even a little langer. :)

Once it finishes this one the next one will be different. :?

I have a 2.88Ghz C2D, 3Ghz P4, 2Ghz P4 and a 2.13 Pentium M all working towards the top... but dang.. some people have been doing this so long. I am only up to ~100 after a month or so.

blah, after that article about laptop batteries dying quicker with heat I don't really want to run my laptop 24/7 folding.

If its next to the cracked open window (quite cold outside) do you think it would be ok to leave it running? I don't want my battery life to stop and die ~ 18 months or whatever, but I don't want to waste my Pentiu M.

I live in a dorm directly above my University's "Super Computer" and I put in an application to run F@H for 48 hours straight through the Chemistry department. They thought it was a cool idea and with 8 Xeon 3070's kickin for 48 hours the numbers should be pretty good.

very cool what he's doing....

anyway.. sad news: the system administrator at my school said no to running F@H on school computers 🙁 and i'm pretty sure that's final...

That sucks labs are always good for extra wu's.

I should hopefully be adding a group of like a dozen P3 733's in the near future. Don't know how much they'll help but it's worth a shot.

If anyone has checked out the article on the release of the Nvidia 8800GTX & 8800GS, it looks like Folding is about to take a huge step forward! I know you can already use the X1950's for Folding, but the new 8800 series seems like it going to ice the cake!

Enjoy!
