[SOLVED] Thoughts for my friend's pc build

Solution
I've compiled one, which includes a substantially better GPU, a 1600 CPU (you want the 12nm AF version, it's basically the same as a 2600 for more than half the price, if you can find one right now!) and I'd definitely suggest some sort of SSD even if just for Windows. I think 500w should be sufficient for your build, but I am a little overbudget:

Did he build the system yet? And if not, are those the actual prices he's considering? If that's the case, there isn't much point in spending $175 on a Ryzen 2600, when a faster 3600 can be had for the same price. You just need to make sure you get a motherboard that's compatible with 3000-series processors, such as MSI's B450 "MAX" boards.

Likewise, the same goes for a 1660 Ti over $300. A $230 1660 SUPER should be nearly as fast (within 5%), or go for a faster RTX 2060 for a little over $300.

It would probably also be worth tossing an SSD in there, to install the OS, applications, and some frequently-played games on.

This'll be faster. It also has a better quality PSU. The motherboard has a BIOS flash button. It allows you to update the BIOS without the CPU, GPU or RAM installed. Be sure to also update the BIOS for the GPU. As the 5600XT will get a performance boost.

Too bad there isn't room in the budget for an SSD.
