Hey everyone,

I'm pretty new to this and wanted opinions on my new build. I've been researching builds and parts, so I'm excited to build my own.

My boyfriend and I plan to build/use this together. He'll use it for some light gaming I want it for digital art purposes (running adobe software and other painting & video software). He wanted to focus on the graphics card, I wanted to focus on the CPU and memory.

Here's our build:
CPU- Intel Core i5-7500 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor
Motherboard- Asus STRIX Z270-E GAMING ATX LGA1151 Motherboard
Memory- G.Skill Ripjaws V Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-2400 Memory
SSD- Crucial MX300 275GB 2.5" Solid State Drive
HDD- Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive
Graphics Card- Asus GeForce GTX 1060 3GB Dual Video Card
Case- Phanteks ECLIPSE P400S TEMPERED GLASS ATX Mid Tower Case
Power Supply- EVGA 750W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply

We'll be using Windows 10 Home for the OS. We're not planning to overclock or anything. Is this too much for what we'd use it for? Thoughts and opinions are greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Hi Inky,

A few thoughts on your build - Hellfire is right about your motherboard/chipset - you could probably save some money and go for the Asus Prime H270 plus. You don't need the features on the Z270 since you're using a non-overclocking processor. I would use that savings *about $85 on Amazon in the US* and get a 6GB GTX 1060. You may not need the horsepower now but it will be nice for gaming WELL into the future.

I disagree that the PSU is BAD. It's certainly not great but it's from a reputable brand on a system that's not going to demand too much from it. If you downgrade the motherboard as suggested you can upgrade both the graphics card and the PSU to an EVGA 750w Gold - a very nice PSU, for only about $10-15 increase in your...
Sorry, I'm new to this forum set up. Our budget is $1000, we went a little bit over and that's okay. My location is in Connecticut.

And okay what would you reccomend for a PSU? I wasn't sure about it, but I liked that it had cable management.

I'll look for a different motherboard too. I mainly went with that one because a friend reccomended it.

Ditch the wifi card if you dont need...

Hope this helps!

Never cheap out on a PSU, Its the backbone of your system. If its not upto the mark, sometimes when they go out, they tend to take out other parts along with them.

Thank you both for your answers and Hellfire13 for your build! It was hard to figure out where to put my money at times, but this way we can get a better graphics card and CPU so thank you.

And RonRaxXx, yeah we weren't really focusing on aesthetics as it's our first build. But in terms of the case we really loved how it looked and the functionality of it. Do you have any thoughts on the case? Would it be unnecessary to buy that one? We were also looking at NZXT cases as well.

We'd love to get a different cooler fan for the CPU, but that would probably be later down the road. :) for now it's a start.

Oh no no! It's okay I didn't take it the wrong way or anything just wanted to be sure. Thank you though :)

And I really enjoy your build. I've seen a few builds online with NZXT in them similar to yours. I love the colors, but I don't think I could handle water cooling. It looks really cool (especially when builds have colored tubes) and I understand the purpose of it. I just feel like I'd screw it up or knowing my luck the water would burst and there goes my computer lol. >_>
