Just got a new OEM FCPGA. Trouble is, whoever the idiot is that packaged it stuck a decent sized fingerprint on the actual chip itself (i.e. the raised silicon part). My question is "Is this bad?" Is it safest to
1. leave it as is and hope for the best.
2. *carefully* clean it with alcohol and very soft cloth.
3. ask vendor to trade me for a "clean" one.

thanks for any help

get the system doing CPU intensive work overnight and see if any problems arise, the only thing to really worry about with that would be static discharge, doesn't sound like they were careful about that. just clean it with nonconductive liquid and a very soft cloth, very gently, then use some thermal compound to mount the heatsink to make sure its airtight (generally a good idea anyway)
touching the chip won't cause problems unless you bazot it when you do so. If all works well overnight it should be just fine, enjoy your new toy ;-)

just stick with option 2 (the cleaning part)...
don't forget to use thermal grease when you put the heatsink on!!
