Hi All,
I have a question. I don't know which Thunderbird CPU is better for overclock up to 1.1 GHz: Thunderbird 800Mhz or 850Mhz?
Please help me!
S.

Neither should be better than the other, as the 850mhz were not really mass released, but 900's and 1000's. What I am saying is that the 850 and 800 are probably the same CPU from AMD, same process, etc...

Despite the fact that both the chips are essentially the same, unless you plan to unlock the chip, the multiplier could sway your decision. Overclocking an 800 requires a higher bus speed to reach 1GHz than the 850. Also, the 850s were probably the better of the lot of 800's, i.e. they might o/c more reliably. Just a thought...

You obviously don't know anything about AMD processors. The CPU's can be unlocked via the L1 bridges on top of the CPU, negating the need to up the front side bus, but by simply changing the multiplier with the motherboard to attain the desired speed, so either CPU will be set to the 10x multiplier, or higher to 11x in order reach the speed of 1.1Ghz. The FSB can be increased to attain higher speeds, bu the VIA KT133 chipset will not run much over 110mhz on the FSB, so changing the multiplier will be best.

Now hold on there, don't start telling people what they do and don't know. If you care to read a bit more carefully you'd see that I said "If you don't plan on unlocking your processor," which should indicate that I do know about closing the L1 bridges and using an Abit or Asus motherboard to overclock using the multiplier. But not all of us have the money for those boards. The only option available to me on my Tyan board is bus overclocking. If it were me in his situation, I'd be affected by the multiplier. He didn't mention in his post what kind of motherboard he had...I just wanted him to consider all aspects of the situation. Don't start calling people stupid when they know what they're talking about. Especially when you start doing it because you haven't read their entire post.

Apologies, as I misread your post. I was in a hurry and was leaving working when I posted it. Sorry.
