Thunderbird 700 @ 800......should it go higher?

I overclocked my thunderbird 700 some time ago, and was only able to get it to 800 no matter how high I put the voltage. It runs stable and cool with my Chrome orb and case fans, but I just thought it should go faster, I unlocked it, and it just won't go. I've read of thunderbird 700s going to 1 GHz so I was hopeing for 900 or at least 850. Any clues on how I can get more speed without messing with the FSB? I have the asus A7V mother board with generic PC133 memory, I was also wondering if the memory could be the problem.

Well no one seems to want to help me
:-(
well I just flashed my bios to 1005a from 1003. If you think this should help with overclocking let me know and I'll try to overclock more

Thanks ahead of time if anyone posts

i doubt it's the memory because raising the lultiplier doesn'e stress the memory more. i would guess it's one of two things: the chip just won't run higher than 800 (which it was sold as a 700) or you didn't do a good enough job of connecting the L1 bridges. my 900 will run fine at 1000 at the default 1.75 volts, but it doesn't like anything higher than that...go figure

I could only get my green t-bird 700@850. I can boot at 900 and surf the net but can't play games. I have the tornado case with 8 fans running and a global win fop32. It is one of the best cooler's rated by tom's sight. I also have artic silver compound on the core of the chip. Some cpu's are better than others.

use the multipliers, don't mess with the FSB just yet.
But you could also list some of the symptoms you are having when you try to take it to 850 or higher.

well at 850 it will post and then go to black, then at 900 it will go through the post and get into windows for about 5 seconds and crash, then after that first try at 900 the following time it won't even get past post I get the windows protection fault. But now I don't really care that I can't get past 800 because I'm gonna get a 1 GHz now
YAY with a KT7 RAID so that should overclock quite nicely I hope.
Although if I buy it with a 3year warranty I might not want to overclock it.
It all depends.
But I still might want to see how fast my 700 will go before I get my 1 GHz. I was also wondering if it would help if I had thermal paste under the heatsink

The Arctic Silver is good stuff, I would try it if I were you. It'll drop the temp a little, which might allow you to go higher.

I was having the same problem and increased my voltage and got here @ 850mhz. As for 900mhz and Gigz I would have to run 1.85 vols my Temp @ 850 was 44c idle and never broke 50c
before I try 900 or 1 gigz I will have to invest in a better HSF even though my temps aren't bad just to be safe.
It might just be ur Cpu won't take higher speeds also
I bought my Cpu and it was already unlocked. Gotta love Canada! And yes it was brand new and from a store not some geek with a pencil!

yes, try a thin later of thermal goop and make sure to remove the thermal pad from under the heatink.
better yet consider a better heatsink.

who is more foolish...
the fool, or the fool that takes his advice?
