I see some people are running their chips up to 2.2 volts. I have an 850 running on 1.80 volts at 1000. I have a fop38 and run around 44C. I can't get up to 1050 though. Actually for whatever reason on the A7V the clock always shows up as 1066. whatever it is, I can't get there. Would a higher voltage help me to get to 1050? Please Help

YES. Check out Tom's overclocking guide for the Socket A Athlon's. The 1Ghz barrier requiers a higher voltage. He has all the voltage settings on the guide for all clock speeds.

PS, have you tried upping the FSB? You can squeeze more Mhz out of the CPU with a higher FSB and not have to screw with the voltage- most of the time.

cool thanks. Yeah tried the fsb thing, but my nic card is pretty sensitive to the pci clock. Anything over 34 and it quits. Thanks for the reference. I had forgotten that article.

i would be careful of heat if you try to bump up the voltage. also most motherboards let you go to 1.85v, did you try that? just makin sure. i have a 800 and cant get it to run any faster than 950 without windows 2000 crashing during startup, i assume your running win98?

If at first you don't succeed, skydiving isn't for you.

I'm at 1.85v running an 800 and an 850 at 1ghz at around 45 celcius with a sanded down (polished the bottom) fop38. The sanded bottom allows for less riges and better heat transfer, made a difference of 3 degees. I am running 98, but I'll try 2000 soon.

you might want to try asking your friends for help. they seem to know what they are talking about.

Actually the answer is simple, I finally figured it out. over 1000mhz requires higher voltage than board provides without modification. Once modded to go to higher voltages the chip can go up as well.

and you may need water cooling once you get above 1000mhz, it gets really hot, i havent seen too many people going above 1000 off an 800 without using water
