I was playing Vice City the other day and in the middle of the game my video froze and then went to gray lines. I thought it might be a heat issue, so I turned off the computer, let it cool down and restarted. I then could view the desktop, but as soon as I started any game requiring 3D (Vice City, UT 2003), the screen ended up displaying weird artifacts. The same thing happens when the computer is cool. Am I hosed?

Hey there,

I had that exact same thing happen to my old Geforce 2 MX 200. It worked fine in Windows ME, which I had at the time, but as soon as I loaded anything 3d, it showed artifacts and grey-ish green lines.

It turned out to be toasted - even though I never overclocked it, and had heaps of fans. I even tried it on my brother's computer and the same thing occured, even with fresh drivers.

I may be wrong in your case, but if you try new drivers and it doesn't do anything, I'd see if it is still under warranty and get it replaced if you can.

Good luck,

Matthew.
