Hi everyone,
I'm a total illiterate when it comes to PCs and their parts, so I'm after some advice.
I build my rig about 5 years ago, and I find it starts struggling more and more. I don't do heavy gaming, but even games like TW Warhammer 3 and ARMA Reforger are starting to struggle a bit.

This is what I currently have:
Motherboard: B450 Tomahowk Max
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600 6-core, 3600Mhz
GPU: AMD Radeon RX 5700
RAM: 16GB (can't seem to figure out exactly which one though)

Running windows 11 pro
Main monitor is a Xiaomi Mi curved 34" and an MSI MP2412 as a secondary.

What are my best options to get some new life into this system (as stated before, I don't need a killer set-up for super heavy gaming, just something that lets me comnfortably play the above mentioned games)? The things that I've thought about are:
- reinstalling windows
- upgrading parts (if so, which ones and with what?)
- building a whole new system from scratch

Love to hear some ideas!

Thanks everyone,
Yarnev

If you want to build a new system from scratch, what is the maximum you can spend?

Are you in the USA?

Where do you want to buy parts from? Amazon? Newegg? A local store?
Hi!
I'm in Australia. Parts will most likely come from different online stores. Budget would sit around $2000aud (let's say no more than $1500USD) so I can build something that will serve me for many years to come, but if I can postpone that kind of expense by upgrading what I have that would be the preferred route.

You might need to add a psu to any upgrade mix.

I’m from the USA so keep that in mind, but here a 5700x3d would cost you about $200. I’d consider upgrading the gpu to at least the level of a 7800xt or better. Those cards can be found here for about $450 give or take. As someone else said a new psu would be a good idea as well.

Cheers guys!
I did indeed opt to upgrade to:
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5700X3D
- GPU: Radeon 7800 XT
- 32 GB of DDR4 3600Mhz RAM

PSU is a bit under specd at the moment (Corsair CX 650W). I'll keep an eye on this one, and if I notice that I start drawing more than 80%-85% of that 650W, I'll upgrade it to a 750W 80+ gold PSU.

Another option Pc case gear is a aussie retailer and i buy alot of my stuff from them !!

maybe a new PSU i would go a corsair 850w for this build !!

It pushes you over 1500aud but i would personally go AM5 over AM4 at this point

Yes over the 1500aud mark but for that little extra its PC you can still upgrade in a few years and zen 5 and rumoured zen 6 will be still on AM5 platform !!

To be messing with AM4 now is a bit silly !!

I dont disagree with the 5700x3d or the 5800x3d ( which ive owned and is a awesome cpu ) but its still old and basically on its way out now and your limited to upgrade nothing past the 5700x3d or 5800x3d if using the AM4 platform .

Which is why i recommend the AM5 platform !!
