Hello everyone, here is my problem. I'm currently running on an awesome P3-450mhz, 64mb Ram, 12gig hd, and some other out of date stuff in the case! 😉)

The family and I are planning to buy a new miniDV and start
making some family videos and so forth. Obviously, I will need to build us a new computer and want some advice on what type of Amd proc and motherboard should I get. I know this is a really general question, but any advice would be great.

For a cheap upgrade, you can go with a mobile athlon 2400 and an abit nf7-s version 2.0. For a more expensive route, wait 2-3 more weeks for the nforce3 250 chipset boards and run with an athlon 64 socket 754 or socket 939 (due out about June). For the case, an antec solution series with 350 watt power supply should work well with just about any cpu. Newegg.com has a good selection and gets many new items first.

You will aslo need new ram and a larger hard drive if you are seriously going to get into video editing. With that setup you probably have SDRAM. You will need some DDR.

Yeah, I will definetly need to get at least 512mb of DDR ram. I live in the UK, so I need to start searching the best places to buy ram too. I guess Ebay would be a good start.

Yeah, I have read something about the nforce3 250 chipsets
coming out. We are planning to buy our Sony miniDV next week and our holiday in the states will be about 3 weeks. So we won't be planning anything seriously until the beginning of June. Thanks for the advice!

Be careful with E-Bay. Manufacturers like Giel will not honor the lifetime warranty when you buy their memory from E-Bay. Checkout the return policies carefully on any memory you buy there.
