most games on the list deserve to be there, but the lack of ocarina of time, link to the past, MGS3, pokemon, and final fantasy 6 disturbs me.

No Skyrim, no Ocarina of Time, no RTS games, and far, far too many arcade games from the 70's and 80's. Also, Angry birds did nothing to shape gaming. It didn't revolutionize anything, or deliver any meaningful story or even demonstrate any new tech.

I can't remember the name of this game but it was choose your own adventure type, and you could pick a character of 5 races, elves, wizard, etc ... it was was computer game or maybe apple, I can't remember does anyone else?

[citation][nom]inthere[/nom]RTS gets no love? Command And Conquer, Age Of Empires, Warcraft AND 2, Red Alert, it really was the golden age in the 90's for RTS.[/citation]

good call. no RTS games that i noticed. warcraft 2, red alert, total annihilation. one, or all, or any combination of the 3 would have been nice to include.

No matter how well thought out the list is, the omission of Ocarina of Time invalidates the whole thing. OoT would makes most people's top ten list let alone a top 100!

By it's very nature a list like this will get a few wrong in almost every gamers mind. With that view, here's my add / remove list.

Add: Descent II, Medal of Honor: Allied Assault, Star Wars: Jedi Outcast and Homeworld

Remove:
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (character movement was terrible and the storyline was practically linear)

LOL:
Solitaire (It's not a game - it's a simulation of a deck of cards - heh :)

I think it was a pretty good list. As others have said, being constrained to 100 games is tough. The games listed have to be more than just games that were played alot...they would have to be influential (cuz' as an older dude, I see alot of rehashes).

That said I would definitely include Dragon's Lair. 1) It was the first laser disk game and 2) introduced timing based movement patterns. And guess what, modern games are still using quick time event sequences.

I would also put in Double Dragon as the first 2 player co-op beat-em-up arcade. Games are still being made using this model of play. Ever pick up and use a bad guy's dropped weapon? Double Dragon started that.

I would also put in Gauntlet as it was the first multiplayer (more than 2) co-op arcade game, I think.

Several games missing from this list:

1990's: Trade Wars, X-Com UFO Defense, Quake 2, Command & Conquer, FreeSpace 1 & 2, X-Wing and TIE Fighter, Mechwarrior 2 Mercenaries, Total Annihilation

2000's: Neverwinter Nights, Operation Flashpoint, Jedi Academy & Outcast

2010's: Borderlands, Skyrim

My list appears to be getting smaller over the decades... Games aren't the quality they used to be. I'm leaving out some notable sequels such as the new Deus Ex HR, Borderlands 2, Supreme Commander, and many others.... and the more I think about it, the more games I remember, especially from the 90's.

Some people would not agree with Flashpoint, but we had such a blast playing that game in coop lan parties with so many memorable moments. No other game has as many stories that all of us remember so vividly even 10 years later.

[citation][nom]sultanoswing[/nom]No one there, or here, mentioned "Elite" - the grandaddy of Space exploration trading/combat. Shame on Time and shame on you supposed gaming geeks![/citation]

I didn't forget that one either would of been on my list!
By the way to all out there who may not know and loved Elite, There is a kickstarter page by original creator David Braben to try and get the funds to make a new one, Get in on it people and tell your friends about it,45 days left to reach goal.

[citation][nom]hotsacoman[/nom]Time has NO business rating videogames.[/citation]

My thoughts exactly. This is the first time I've seen TIME report anything about video games. The y even skipped Dragon Age Origins and POP

Oblivion wasn't bad, but I agree that Morrowind should be on the list first - it's the game that saved Bethesda as a company. I also feel the Fallout games should be there somewhere.

2010+ games are rather lacking, but I can think of one game that should be there - Deus Ex: Human Revolution.

I'm a little suprised to see Demon's Souls on the list, but I did really enjoy it and Dark Souls.

I also noticed the absence of RTS's and a lot of very memorable RPG's.

LOL...look at the voting for Civilization. How on earth did so many people vote that it shouldnt be on this list???

To tigershark: I think the genius of KOTOR was, unlike say the Mass Effect series, you could go completely evil and actually have it affect the ending absolutely. Oh, and the awesome storyline (I truly did not see the character twist coming until very close to the reveal) Yeah, you can be a renegade in the ME trilogy, but it really only has one total ending whether you are bad or good. Contrast that to the KOTOR endgame, along with how your crew interacts with you as you go evil, whereas for Mass Effect, no matter how renegade I got, nothing really changes in how you approach the endgame, IIRC.

As for character movement, you have to compare it to the games of its time. For example, I dont think movement was much worse than say, Morrowind, although you didnt have freedom of up/down look, which MW did. Obviously, later games like Jade Empire, DAO and the ME trilogy were much better in that respect, but they also came out much later.

Dont get me wrong, I love the ME trilogy. Just pointing out the greatness of KOTOR.

No Age of Empires, Baldur's Gate and Skyrim. Actually a lot many more!

Imagine my shock when it has Mass Effect 3 in it! It's not a bad game, pretty good actually, but not the 'greatest' :|
