Time to upgrade from Sandy Bridge?

Hi, everybody. I'm about to move from a 1080p to a 1440p 144 Hz monitor for gaming, and am upgrading my video card to do so (GTX 570 - 980 Ti). I built this machine in 2011, and am wondering whether the CPU (i5-2500K) will be able to keep up. It's running at stock speeds on air at the moment, but I plan to watercool and OC it pretty hard.

If this processor can keep me going for another couple of years, that would be great, but if not, it might be a good opportunity to switch. Skylake looks to be nice, and a 2011-v3 setup would actually not be that much more expensive with a 5820K. I don't absolutely need the extra 2 cores, but they would come in handy with video editing, streaming, multitasking, etc. The machine will primarily be used for gaming and general work.

What do you think? Any advice would be appreciated.

Solution
Should be fine for 2-3 years with an OC.
Assuming like most Intel chips from the past decade or so, most OC pretty well.
Many thanks for the helpful replies, Danbuscus25, CTurbo, and mrmez. This is just the info I needed. Looks like I'll be sticking with the 2500K for the time being! I never thought that this processor would be so long-lived, but it's still going very strong.
