Wow, I'm glad Comcast services my area. While I can understand why cable companies are capping bandwidth (it costs them money), 40 Gb limit for the same price as my current 250Gb capped service? I'd be switching to DSL.

Idiots! They haven't even implemented 2.0 in some of their markets and still have people using 1.0 modems in their homes and businesses who have no idea why their connection(s) keep dying and their modems need to be reset on a nearly daily basis to maintain connection. Heck... The techs still have 1.0 modems in their trucks and they're talking 3.0 "trial markets" now?

In a time-honored tradition, I tell TW this:

Go to Hell. Go directly to Hell. Do not pass Go. Do not collect $200.
 
If TW starts this robbery I am stuck. They are the only service in my area. No DSL. And any type of Fiber is a joke out here. But TW is charging me extra because they "have fiber service!" Not to me they don't. They have already extorted me because I only subscribe to their Internet service. Told me they were going to raise my price if I didn't get their cable/phone service also. When I complained they offered me "$19.95/month" VOIP service after which it would go back to it's "less for more" high price compared to my current VOIP provider Vonage.
 
I'm from San Antonio, and will be dropping ALL services from TWC if this goes into effect. Its price gouging and an attempt to bleed us dry. I currently have TWC for cable isp, phone, and cable tv. I will drop the entire package since the phone and cable tv are of little importance to me. I have always had descent service from TWC, even when everyone said they were dirt. What they are doing now is immoral. I'm sure my wife will enjoy the extra $120 a month we can save.
 
if they do that i would cancel my service. Time warner does not have contract and they would lose a bunch of customer right away.
 
In Europe it is standard to not have any Cap of any kind. I pay equiv. $40/mo for unlimited Internet 8mbit down and 1 mbit up. Americans and Canadians are not exactly spoiled with their Inernet connections. This is abd for new IT businesses as the Cap seems to limit many new IT ideas and innivative applications. For my, Internet is nothing more like a power grid where I connect my computer to email, chat, download, gaming, watch videos, news, non stop music and radio broadcasting (DirectFM, Last.fm, local and national radio stations etc.) To the North American Capping feels more or less like being handicapped, having your ISP to cut your limbs. Make your point heard and bojcott those greedy companies that are dictating what you want or need.

I have a friend that lives in a thirld world country. He got unlimited 4mbit/512kbit ADSL and pays $15 a month. The speed is excellent and we often send files to each other. That said, the internet in North America (and Australia?) is then worse than the internet in a thirld world country. That's bad...
 
Did TW try to buy Netflix and get rebuffed or something? This moving backwards really hits their streaming movie system.. as well as that of a dozen other companies.

I guess if you have a box that'll record the movies to watch later, speeds don't matter so DSL or satellite could work..

What a rip-off!

Here in Sweden I'm paying around 50USD per month (tax included), and I have 8Mbit/s down and 8Mbit/s up, and it's a flat rate. No capping whatsoever. This means that I often download/upload 50GB on a daily basis (as utorrent is running in the background all the time).

Other ISP's can have higher speeds and lower prices (depending on where you're living), but no ISP would dream of capping the usage. An ISP capping would see their customers immediately switch for a better ISP.

To cap internet usage in USA will hamper development and give other countries an upperhand against USA in the tech sector.

Be as loud and vocal as possible. Verison must be kept off of caps all together, and unless we make it clear to Verison all the business they will lose if they implement a cap, then they will implement one too.

While I agree what greed fuels TimeWarner and has a large part in all of this, there is the real reason for the caps and they are not mentioning it at all.
TimeWarner owns a part in everything that is media based. Film, TV, music, software...in short, everything that can be copied and distributed. Big media corporations are failing to block copying and sharing of electronic media. Their progress ranks up there with the "war on drugs."
This is TimeWarners stab and making the "pirates" pay for sharing media. Look at it honestly...who is downloading the most? This action will not end well for TimeWarner.
My suggestion for everyone out there. #1...if you have TimeWarner and have the opportunity to move to someone else then do it now and let them know exactly why you are doing it. #2...make a point to download anything that is associated with TimeWarner and redistribute it. If you own TimeWarner anything...burn it and redistribute it. #3...if you don't know anything about downloading and sharing data then learn. There are better ways other than torrents in the sense that "they" will not be actively tracking your sharing. Research.
 
Download caps are the bane of existence for anyone who uses the internet for a legitimate reason. Like watching streamed HD content from Netflix? Well, you'll have to upgrade your plan or pay overage fees if you watch more than one movie a week. Like purchasing games from online retailers like Steam, Impulse, etc? Well that download is likely going to hit your cap, never mind actually playing any multiplayer on it.
 
My GVTC is 26Mbit and reasonably priced with no cap, but to balance that out they force me to pay for a phone line I don't want/need. I called them and told them I didint want the line, and they tried telling me it was required for my DSL. I don't have DSL, I have fiber, and explaining that was a task in and of itself.

They eventually said it's their policy to charge me for a phone line I don't want/need. This is why we need the rules changed to allow local government the option of building municipal fiber if there is local support and funding, corporations can't be trusted with sole access to the internet, as the internet is increasingly beginning the primary portal through which information is sent, received, and acted on. One day voting will be online, and I don't want some corporation not allowing me to vote because I went over a cap.
 
I'll make it simple. I don't want to worry about overages and I think that the $59 I pay now for turbo is already outrageously high. Put the cap in place and I'll find another provider for both TV and internet, even if it means accepting a lower level of service. I don't know how else to send a message to a very greedy company.
 
I for one, do like the 50/5 for $100, that is reasonable, I am paying 60 for my turbo now, and that's 24Mb/s burst at best. and 768 up, but if you're giving me 50Mb/s (5 MB/s) down, I'm going to be VERY pissed if I have a cap. 200 Seconds at that full rate is 1 GB. That means at that speed, I get 333 minutes of usage a month for even a 100 GB cap. Put a cap on the lower ends, free up ridiculous bandwidth for high price for the rest of us. They have to give somewhere. There are a lot of legitimate uses for large downloads other than illegal movies. (why don't they cap hard drive size at 200 GB, surely that's enough for your programs and legal itunes music. The only use over that is for illegal movies, right? Nobody needs 6 TB of HDD space unless they are downloading illegal movies 😉 Watch Steal steal this movie, and steal this movie 2 if you guys haven't already..)
 
So how about it, Time Warner Cable customers? Is this enough to convince you to douse the torches and put away the pitchforks?

Not even remotely so! TW is apparently trying to beat Microsoft for the "most evil company" in the world. Ok, that may be a bit dramatic, but it sure feels like it sometimes. For now I guess I'll just stock up on lube to help ease the pain my backside will feel once this goes live. I pray Verizon offers service in my area by Aug.
 
Nope. Pitchfork and torches are still out and I'm trying to get the FCC and the State Attorney General interested in what is going on here.
 
Don't they understand EVERYBODY who actually uses their Internet connection will switch to another provider? This is a terrible idea I think Time Warner needs a new CEO.
 
I'm a TWC customer and I absolutely WILL change carriers if/when these idiots decide to institute a bandwidth cap in my area. This is ridiculous!!
 
If TWC wants to take a real poll of their customer's usage, they have the information at their fingertips. If they want to take a customer satisfaction survey, they have all of the contact information they could possibly need. Include a survey on the next round of overpriced bills. Email customers. Call them. They'll tell you how much your service sucks and how if their monopoly was lifted they would switch service providers in a heartbeat. They'll tell you why your company is really in the toilet. And that's not even counting the fact that they don't carry Viacom channels anymore. The future is Fiber Optic, and the future is internet based. Phone, TV, everything internet based. And don't forget to run high voltage through a sleeve protecting the fiber cables, or vandals will cut it. Then again, maybe they should. Maybe you would, yourselves. Since, ya'know, reducing your load would only mean increased margins for you. Congratulations, you are officially more evil than Comcast.
 
It's still crap. They are still giving us nothing and making even more money. I will still cancel if they bring it here, even under these "new" terms.
