Hi everyone,

I've done searches and have read on some of these topics but was curious on direct feedback.

I have an:
i7 2600 (non k)
gtx 680
8GB of ram
biostar tz68a+ (4.6.4 5/10/11 bios version/date)
60hz 1080p monitor.
I think 750w, definitely more than 550w psu.

I just ordered a gtx 1070, used. I want max settings, all the lighting/shadow effects, 60fps 1080p. I read with a 60hz monitor, 60fps is the ceiling practically speaking. Is it worth buying $70 16gb ram or is 8gb (4+4) enough for that?

I read around that my cpu shouldn't bottleneck, but I'm curious: Do new GPUs stress out old CPUs more? Should I buy the hyper 212 cooler to replace the stock intel cooler now that I'll have a gtx 1070? What would you recommend doing to get the most out of the 1070 with this set up?

I read it's possible to OC the non k i7-2600. I also read it's not. I read it can get to 4.1ghz, I also read it's not worth it. To get 60fps, do you think it's worth it?

I got the 1070 because I thought it would be able to do 1080p max settings 60fps, and in a few years with a new cpu/Mobo I'll be able to still use it with medium 1440p settings.

I plan on taking everything apart and cleaning it. Any tips? Is it safe to use the typical desktop aircan cleaner directly on the cpu/gpu/Mobo? If not, what do I use to clean all the dust. I am a noob with pc setup and care.

Thank you to anyone who took the time to help, I really appreciate it.

Solution
Alright, I'll answer in chronological order.

  1. If you want to continue to use the GTX 1070 for 3 more years, invest in more RAM. Also because your MOBO is using DDR3, and depending on if its 1066-2200Mhz. Your going to want atleast 16GB if you want to keep up with more modern games, especially to avoid stuttering. Upcoming AAA games such as Cyberpunk recommend at-least 16GB so acknowledge that.
  2. A new GPU should stress a CPU less. Less work for the sucker to do. But the CPU may bottleneck the GPU when it comes to terms with physics and such.
  3. Downloading 'Intel Extreme Tuner Utility' will benefit you greatly. If your CPU has overclock potential (Which is does) the tuner will allow it you be safely overclocked which will boost...

  4. Don't use it from up-close, keep a distance and make sure to avoid wires. Also make sure the dust has a place to go; I had a pal who did it once and we took off his motherboard and it looked like a crematorium.

Best of luck!

Thank you, I'll look up that program and get the 16gb ram. My Mobo says 1333, then like 4 other speeds with OC next to em. So I'm just gonna get 1333.
