to format or not to format

We have a server in a RAID 10 and a hard drive has failed. We have a replacement drive but it is from another server that has data on it. Do I need to format the drive prior to putting it into the RAID 10 or will the RAID do it automatically?

usually once you tell it that the drives is the new drive the rebuild process takes care of the rest.
