We changed plans, we're now trying to get a decent manager first.
After that there are rumours about Ricardinho and Figo, but you know
how these summer rumours are. Lots of them in the air, few -if any-
come to be true.

Maybe Martin O'Neill's real reason for leaving Celtic was so that he could
take over? Today in the Daily Star.....

It'd pretty cool if he's convinced to take over.

He`s a brilliant coach. Rosenborg has been trying to get him back since
98, but norwegian clubs can\t pay what he`s asking, and he also want new
challenges. He was playing for Rosenborg during the 80`s and became
Bodø`s coach after his playing career, but won the cup with Bodø as a
playing manager. Came back to Rosenborg in..ca 95..as an assistant
manager, and our coach Eggen had a year off in 98, he lead the team.
Very good coach and you`re lucky if you get him. He doesn\t run away
from problems, but confront them right away. Fair man who knows his
football. The attacking kind. Prefered system is 4-3-3.

You have seen what Le Guen has done for Lyon? Oh yeah, that would be one
good manager signing.

Not yet, he'll answer by the end of the week. He'll probably turn us
down, but it's not certain yet.

By the way, why is a relatively high profile manager going to Greece (if I am
not misreading this thread)?
It will be like Van Der Vaart joining Hamburg.

Well, money for one. And the top Greek teams (Olympiakos,
Panathinaikos) can beat anyone in Greece (even the European
Champions). 🙂. Olympiakos can also sign any player they like (as
long as the player wants to join, that is).

Of course I have, three titles in a row is not to be taken likely. I would
imagine he would be quite in demand after that.

Maybe not, but saying to the press he had no desire to live in Greece is
pretty
damn close to "no"??

Money may talk somewhat. Still, going from French football to the Greek league
would be in most circles considered a step down; the Rehhagel after-effects
notwithstanding. Le Guen is highly regarded in France now and I suppose also on
the Continent seeing what he has done with Lyon.

Indeed. Operative phrase 'as long as the player wants to'.

(Aha!)
Pedant mode:
He wants to go to Greece. It is a lov-er-ly place.
He does not want to Greece for the Greek football league.

You have French football. Excellent. Ligue1 is getting to be more entertaining
it seems by the season.
When I first watched the Lyon games when Le Guen was appointed, I thought 'What
kind of tactics are these? Playing your best players in off positions. Juninho
on the left with Malouda as left back?' etc etc.
But, what is an armchair 'ex-pert' to know. He has proven to be one of the top
young managers around Europe at the mo.

Mos def. We get a little bit of coverage on Channel 4 early Sunday
morning, which I would normally curse but the Sky+ sorts it out no problem.
Eurosport has some coverage, although it's usually restricted to Eurogoals
at the moment, which is a shame as last season they showed games live quite
regularly.

Definitely the 4th best league in Europe in my eyes. Stand down Germany.

And we all believe that. Capello said he would never go to Juventus, yet
he just lifted the title there.
