So sad.... oh why oh why... I fought well and got down to Angband lvl
100 with no real close calls. Suddenly I saw Sauron, great - I swapped
in the Anchor (bad planning), Sauron summoned som big D's. Well, big
D's hade been no problem so far, so I hacked at Sauron, only managed to
snatched one star from him - and then... most D's decided to breath at
me... uh.. ouch... that hurt... death...

How reckles of me... all these hours... but I'm rather happy anyway.
I've never got this far before. The character combo is rather easy to
play. RohanKnight for the speed, Vampire for the resists and
Swordmaster for the nice melee. Mindcraft for good utility magic and
Mimicry for extra melee.
Playing small levels made the game faster and more fun.

I even had 19 *Healing* bottles from a trip to Erebour.... what a
shame..

I've never got very far with magic-guys, perhaps I try my luck at those
next time I take on the Troble of Middle Earth.

/david.

Uhm... yes... hm... yes I lost sound resist when Vorpal was swapped in.
I should have checked my kombinations to get sound and Vorpal.
Never play when you are tired...

Better luck next time. Genocide could have saved you...

I have one question though...

Why did you use this?
a) The Scimitar 'Haradekket' (2d5) (+8,+9) (+2 attacks)
It increases your intelligence, wisdom and attack speed by 2. It is
especially deadly against dragons. It strikes at demons with holy
wrath. It strikes at undead with holy wrath. It fights against
evil with holy fury. It is especially deadly against natural
creatures. It provides resistance to sound, nexus, chaos and
disenchantment. It allows you to see invisible monsters. It has been
blessed by the gods. It cannot be harmed by acid, cold, lightning or
fire. You found it lying in a vault on level 48 of Mordor.

It is a nice sword with nice resists, but you had a real killer weapon:

j) The Long Sword 'Vorpal Blade' (5d5) (+32,+32) (+2 to speed)
It increases your strength, dexterity and speed by 2. It is very
sharp and can cut your foes. It is very sharp and can make your
foes bleed. It fights against evil with holy fury. It provides
immunity to paralysis. It allows you to see invisible monsters.
It slows your metabolism. It speeds your regenerative powers.
It cannot be harmed by acid, cold, lightning or fire. You found it
in the remains of a Great Hell Wyrm on level 61 of Mordor.

The two "It is very sharp..." messages look redundant to me. Bug?

One is from the VORPAL flag, the other from WOUNDING. Not a bug per
se, though of course strictly speaking the two messages could be
consolidated into one, kind of how some variants would render the
above "It grants you immunity to paralysis and the ability to see
invisible things" instead of having two separate sentences.

Unless VORPAL and WOUNDING can also randomly turn up on randarts
together I don't know if it'd be worth the effort though.

Sounds like the FLAGS are redundant. The description text seems to mean
the same thing for both of them. Or are they cumulative?

They are different effects. If I'm reading the source right - and as I
know nothing about programming I'm probably not - WOUNDING causes
monsters to lose some hitpoints every turn as well as stop
regeneration, whereas VORPAL causes some bonus damage.
I'm not able to tell how it works in ToME; I do remember that in ZA,
"a weapon with the vorpal flag will have a 1-in-6 chance of doing
additional damage each time it strikes" (quote from a four years old
help file) or at least it used to. Maybe this is how it works in ToME
as well. I don't know.

Anyway, yes, I'm fairly sure these two flags are cumulative.

Sounds like the descriptions need changing to better differentiate them.
Vorpal might best be described as "It is magically sharpened to
sometimes hit your foes extra hard". The description for WOUNDING can
then be left as-is.
