Just Cause 2 for me. I purposely avoid looking at any stats on time played on Steam because it might make me sad to know how much time i've wasted just running around and blowing s*** up 🙂

The Witcher 3 is my favourite open world game, but I'm not sure it's my favourite open world. Perhaps its strongest quality was how there were interesting quests to do everywhere; there weren't many boring parts of the world. I'm a bit biased though since really like the Witcher universe; I even sought out fan-translations a few years ago of all the books that weren't in English.

I find Bethesda games (Fallout 4, New Vegas, Skyrim in particular) maybe more interesting to explore though. I am surprised quite often by the weird things that happen in them.

I have to mention Mass Effect though. Those random planets with almost nothing on them were a little tedious, exploring identical facilities on each of them and finding artifacts that supply me with some blurb of text. But I compulsively explored them by driving back and forth, from top to bottom to make sure I found everything to get the completionist achievement. One time I came across some random heard of animals I never saw anywhere else in the game though, which I thought was pretty cool. I promptly killed them.

Fallout 3 is my favourite open world game. The balance of extreme violence and incredibly funny quest lines is something that only Bethesda can pull off. I'm really enjoying Fallout 4 so far but I'd love to take a break to hit up some Just Cause 3!

Thanks for the chance!

I actually really used to enjoy the Simpsons hit and run game when I was younger. Because the games I was allowed to play were limited and I wasn't allowed to play the Grand Theft Auto series due to the violence, it was my first exposure to open world.

Now that I am much older I enjoy Saints Row 3, Most Grand Theft Auto Series entries, Fallout 4, and Just Cause 2, which introduced me to how you can tie a car to a plane and proceed to crash your plane because you screw up somewhere. great times

Red Dead Redemption - I really enjoyed the different feel of this game. The old west setting mixed with open world/GTA type game play was very enjoyable. I wish they would make a follow up to it instead of new GTA games.

I would have to say that my favorite open-world game was Saints Row IV. It was hilariously awesome to leap from building to building, and gliding across the entire map. And then slam into the ground with the force of a nuclear bomb. That was good too. I also really loved the movement style of the Arkham games, especially City and Knight. Grappling and boosting into the air, and then gliding, divebombing, gliding again, and then repeating is really addictive! I would spend hours just going back-and-forth across the map, and having a blast doing it. I liked TESV as well, but SR4 and Arkham Knight stand out as my favorite open-world games of all time

Throwback to the old days: Asheron's Call was my favorite and first open-world game, and I was in on the BETA, so me and some mates went around literally exploring one of the first mmorpg worlds. Our hearts would leap when we found new encampments and quests. Good times.

Far Cry 4 is my favorite. A combination of exploration, side missions (some of them while the character is consuming controlled substance), stealth, good story, and lots of good ol' shooting

My favorite open world game would have to be Fallout: New Vegas for sure. I absolutely loved how much impact your decisions had on the game and how you could literally go and kill whoever you wanted no matter how important they were. Next to that would be Skyrim so much to see and do in that game.

been a fan of the sandbox since driver bt gt interactive, everything from oblivion to gta to fallout 4, have all been played, enjoyed then modded.
just cause 2 was 1 of my fav games of 2010/11 never got much in the way of mods but they were there. i hope this time round theres more effort from the community.

The Assassin's Creed games have always had great open world exploration, as a sort of historical tourism simulator. Even if the locations themselves aren't interactive, it's still fun to explore their architecture.

Either Far Cry 3 or Terraria. FC3 was just so pretty and there were some lovely, beautiful patches of land tucked away for your discovery. Terraria is exciting just because the worlds are so huge and so different each time.

I'd have to go with Fallout 3, New Vegas, Fallout 4, and Skyrim.
Bethesda does a really good job with there open world games, and every game that I play of theirs, I hardly play the main story due to the huge amount of other things that you can accomplish.
I also enjoy the open world of Just Cause 2, I haven't actually played the campaign very much, but I have played quite a bit of the multiplayer.
Open world games just have so much more to offer than normal games, there are a large variety of stories that just branch off, taking you to new places with more adventures.

I love exploring in Fallout games, Elder Scrolls, Mass Effect, and GTA. Really, I love exploring in almost any game I play. I haven't played a Just Cause game, but I'm sure I'd love it too!

A friend of mine was talking about really enjoying Just Cause 2 on his PS3 and eagerly waiting for Just Cause 3 and he's currently enjoying GTA V on his PS4. Just Cause 3 does look pretty awesome.

I've finished Batman Arkham Asylum recently and I'll be starting Arkham City soon. The world in Arkham Asylum is pretty small and it is pretty linear, so I don't know if it counts, but that made it a real blast to play and I could actually get to the end of it. 😀 (Old games, I know, but I hadn't played them yet and someone I know was like: YOU'RE BATMAN. NOW.)

I see that a lot of people have been praising The Witcher 3 but I don't know much about that series but Just Cause is definitely an awesome series. That said, I've been eyeing Fallout 4 for a while now so I don't know if I'll make time for Just Cause 3 just yet. There really are a lot of awesome games coming out.

I have two, my first would have to be Ultima V, I still have the map of Britannia kicking around somewhere. Most recently Far Cry 3 mainly for the accents of the NPCs from fellow Kiwis, felt really odd to hear them in a game.

Far Cry 3. Looked beautiful, lots of variety to taking on enemies. Fun weapons. Great kind of a game to play on a pc. Think Just Cause 3 may be the same.

The cities in GTA are always fun to explore, especially when they are based on / inspired by real cities. It makes you look at the little details closer, knowing that there's a reason for them.
