Good Monday, gentlefolk! What? It’s Tuesday, you say? Well, ain’t that a pleasant surprise! That means a shorter work week for me 😉

In the spirit of the shortened week, we are giving away a very short game: One Way Heroics! This lovely little gem is one of my favorites, a quirky combination of RPG and roguelike elements.

We’ve got five (5) copies to give away and here’s how you can enter for a chance to win! Tell us about the most heroic moment you’ve had in a videogame—and the most un-heroic. How big is the divide between hero and zero?

For my part, my most heroic moment was taking down Ares in the original God of War. Heck, just playing as Kratos was pretty heroic. How can you not feel like a badass when you’re Kratos? My lowest point though, that’s a bad one. It was many years ago, playing WoW, during The Burning Crusade; at level 70, the then level cap, I picked up a quest in Nagrand that I had missed. My mage, decked out in purples and battle-hardened against the likes of Kael’thas and Illidan, was tasked with picking through talbuk poop. It was a decidedly not awesome quest. From god-slayer to poop-scooper.

Contest will run until 12 PM EDT on Friday, September 11th. That’s 12:00 noon. Winners will receive their prize via Steam gifts; a Steam account is required to receive and to play the game. One entry per user. Winners will be selected randomly from among eligible entries. Attempts to cheat the system will result in automatic disqualification.

Be sure to join our Steam group! The group is nearing 1,000 members, and we’ve got a great surprise planned for that, so help us reach that goal faster by inviting your friends!

We’re actively looking for volunteers to write community reviews for games, so if you’re interested, please reach out to me for more details.

heroic - first time through baldur's gate
un-heroic - entire fortress starving to death in dwarf fortress

Heroic- Making an epic aerial shot on Rocket League that no one could block.

Not Heroic - Making a self goal on Rocket League that no one could block (right after the aerial) -.-.

Heroic- In FIFA, when I finally got into a good 11 vs. 11 match were everyone was playing at their positions and I scored the last minute, winning goal.

Not Heroic - Every single time I score an own goal on FIFA when playing on defense.

I'll start off with not so heroic - League of Legends. Was showing off for a girl tried to engage 1v5 even though I was really fed I ended up taking the beating of my life. Embarrassed myself in front of her... and I embarrassed my family.

Heroic - Counter-Strike Global Offensive. Managed to win the last round of the competitive match (for a draw) 1v4 with less than 50 hp. Proudest moment of my Global Offensive experience.

Heroic: The first things that came to mind from my younger days were some of the difficult side bosses of Kingdom Hearts (Sephiroth) and Final Fantasy X (Anima?, geeze I'm gonna have to look it up now but one of the side Aeons was difficult to get), but honestly the more recent triumph was winning a round of GTA V online armed with underwear and a sniper. All my friends were taken out for the round and I eliminated five enemies and a chopper with only a sniper to win the round.

Un-heroic: Whenever I ran Halo games with a team of four and we'd get matched up against four random players. Those were the 50-3 wins that you feel good for coordinating so well as a team but not good for winning by such a landslide.

Heroic: I was in a 25-man raid group, fighting Festergut in ICC during the WotLK expansion in WoW. I played a Ret Paladin at the time. Our tanks were good, and our healers were keeping just about everyone alive, but some of the DPS players were dying to stand-in-fire mechanics (my guild's raid was mostly pug). Our overall DPS output was just barely under the minimum we needed to down him before the 5-minute enrage timer. But, being the ever-so-clever Retadin I was at the time, I immediately hit Divine Shield after seeing the tanks go down, and was the last raider standing when the boss went down. Oh man, the hype on Vent was real! I am still very proud of that accomplishment. 😀

Un-heroic: Gosh, I can really only remember stuff I did in WoW. Anyways, the event took place in the same raid setting, Cataclysm expansion, and I was in a vanity/achievement run. The fight this time was Lootship heroic. I decided to volunteer to jump across to the other ship for this run since I had never done it while it was current content (no one ever asked me to 😛). Everything was going well for my 1st jump, but then I got hit by a rocket in midair for my 2nd and was sent flying off the ship. Unfortunately, it was not possible to res me since I was too far out of range. But hey, it was old content, we still won the fight, and my raid got a good laugh from it. Still pretty embarrassing, though. ;_;

heroic - killing raven in gothic 2 and picking up the claw of beliar. man he was some next level character and his sword....i was like :O

unheroic - losing in fifa 10-0. yeah won't go into any more detail in that 😀

My most heroic moment hasn't technically happened, but it is on its way. It is completing the OCC (One City Challenge) in Civilizations 5. I am about 50-60% done so far with out any major wars or problems around me. A close second is going 1 v 5 in DoTA 2 and completely demolishing the enemy team because you are fed, and end with a score of 40/2.

My most un-heroic moment is probably playing DoTA 2 and going 1/17 as a carry... lets just say I wasn't feeling it that day :).

Heroic: In Heroes of the Storm, my teammates thought the bottom dragon shrine was lost. Then, from across the map, I wiped out all 3 opponents there with a well placed Precision Strike from Nova.

Un-heroic: In the original Super Mario Bros. I die to the very first Goomba about every other time.

Heroic: That one time in AIKA Online where I was playing a tank and I took nearly an hour to solo kill the dungeon boss because everyone else in my raid group had wiped. I came out of it with two broken weapons and just a little over 10% HP remaining to the insane cheers of my party members.

Not-so-heroic: Payday2 playing Death Wish difficulty for the first time...I got flash-banged while distracted and panicked because a huge wave was coming. I threw all my molotovs into the tiny room where my whole team was defending. Being such good friends, they've never let me forget it :|

Heroic: I'd consider this my most heroic feat so far & I'm not kidding anyone. Doom 3 SCARED the HELL out of me when i first played it! Why? At the time I liked playing my games in the complete dark and getting the crap scared out of me at every corner when I wasn't expecting it was not all that cool! I'm not into horror movies and such just for that reason. Cause I seem to be one of those who gets jumpy / scared at things that most others wouldn't. I'm not sure why either, but you know what? I finished that game playing in the dark and have since grown to enjoy other type horror games, but just don't game in the complete dark anymore. :) It took a lot of inner strength to face the fear and checking it off of my list of completed games. To me that's a heroic feat. :)

Not heroic: Never finishing TES V: Skyrim!! I know that's strange too, but it was because I lost all my saved game files and haven't wanted to start back up from scratch. I had a little over 80 hours put into it and the way I see it is, I'm never going to get those 80 hours of my life back. I've thought about installing in again and just doing it, but I have many other games I'm into at the moment 🙁 But I'm sure one day I will play it again and when finished, find out the ending and truly be HEROIC!!

My Heroic Moment: In Dishonored, I completed the entire game without killing anyone. Watching the ending cutscene, I saw everything that I had done laid out before me, and I was glad.

My Zeroic Moment: I started up Bioshock, went through the intro, and as soon as I stepped out of the bathysphere I heard a splicer say "I'm gonna wrap you in a sheet." And I quit the game.

i already have the game so i dont need a copy but wanted to leave this here

scribblenauts
there is a zombie area early on
there is a little girl orphan
i made a parent for her
i than made the parent an alcoholic
i gave them something to drink
i than made the parent abusive
the parent killed the little girl
i made the parent suicidal
i than dropped a gun on the ground
the parent killed itself...

i'll label this as unheroic... i just wanted to see what the game would let me do and how dark i could make a situation... my god i didn't know i could do this.

Lootship fails are the best! I've had that happen to me a few times. After a few accidents, I started doing it on purpose so I could just wait for loot 😀

Heroic: When a group of vampires attacked me and I took them on while in the middle of fighting two giants and a dragon in Skyrim.

Unheroic: When I caused the collapse of America in Civilization V, letting our nation get conquered by France...

Heroic: Saving a bunch of mages from the witch hunters in Novigrad in the Witcher 3.
Unheroic: Threatening soldiers after they started to make fun of me. I called them out and killed most of the army there in Velen. Sucks to kill a whole army just because they said something about you.

felt very heroic getting to level 40 in Dark Souls 2 without a single death. especially after playing the first Dark Souls and getting my butt kicked pretty often.

felt like a fool, very un-heroic, when walking off a very noticeable ledge not long after and dying for the first time. felt like the least heroic fantasy-based game character every when 2 minutes later i walked off the same ledge and lost my 150k+ souls permanently.

My Heroic trial in videogames was beating Perfect Dark only with the fists, melee attacks except for some parts that you need weapons and I did it in the hardest difficulty level.

And for the un-heroic one.. I played Street Fighter II for years and one day a 6 year old kid won me 10 ten rounds in a row with a simple strategy with E.Honda.

Apologies for the slight delay! Lunch had to be eaten. Without further ado, here are the five randomly selected winners, all quite heroic for surviving the RNG death machine!
