Everyone's flashy multi-color lights and other goodies sure look nifty, but aren't they distracting? I mean, if you are playing a game in a dark room, don't all of those lights distract you from what's going on on your monitor?

(forgive me, I am not a gamer so this may be a dumb question)

My build has Zero added rgb. The only rgb it has is the native rgb on the motherboard run by Asus Aura. I have it set to do 1 thing. It's green when the cpu is relatively cool, but once it starts getting warm, it gradually turns amber then red. I set the temp range. It shines on the wall 4ft away.

So mine actually serves a visual purpose, I don't need an in game overlay to tell me temps, a green, amber or red glow on the wall does that for me.

I've seen other builds do similar, in reverse, sort of. During heavy loads, the rgb is diffused, set to go dark and constant, only returning to unicorn puke at light/idle loads.

You can set argb/drgb to do whatever you need it to do, so the unicorn puke you see when just sitting idle isn't necessarily a distraction when gaming.

You can always turn it off too. There are plenty of options and opinions on how it's setup to work.

True I get what you are saying and for sure in a dark room. That being said I never use the computer in a completely dark room so I wouldn't know.

I basically use it for illumination inside the case to keep an eye out for potential leaks. I imagine a lot of people will post photos with the RGB doing its thing, but change the settings after a while. Also not everyone keeps their computers in their line of sight. Under the desk, off to the side, etc.

yes, and those default rainbow "unicorn puke" settings are just ugly as ***.

i keep my monitor's rear lights, motherboard, cooler pump, & graphics card on a very dark blue that's barely noticeable even with the lights out in the office.
my keyboard stays on a low white setting with some keys(WSAD, etc) accented with the same dark blue.
my mouse's thumb buttons also stay on a low white setting.

OH, so those colors actually MEAN something?? (smack forehead and shake head in shame) I never even thought of that! Goes to show I don't get around much, computer-wise. After all, I still can't believe liquid-cooling a PC is an actual thing! :)

Liquid cooling of pc's has been a 'thing' for over 20 sumptin years lol.

And yes, you can setup ARGB/DRGB in a number of ways, unicorn spinning puke is just the standard default for most of that lighting, whether case or motherboard controlled. It's an immediate differential to RGB which is a single color for every led in the chain.

I hate unicorns. And puke. But I kind of like my "Aliens-esque loading dock lighting." "Course, most of that hardware is changed now, and even the lighting is upgraded from the NZXT crap to some better ARGB strips so it actually looks better now, but I'll have to take some current pics to show the changes. But I don't really see how this kind of lighting could be distracting or problematic for anybody AND it allows you to instantly see if anything isn't working properly in the case even when the tinted TG side panel is on.

I'm kind of tempted to have somebody, or do it myself, build some kind of Xenomorph resin wall type thing to put over the vertical slots on the tray.

That was in use on my old Z170 Hero VI board and a different NVME drive. Now with my Z690 configuration and three NVME drives I am no longer using a cooler on the drives because they don't throttle. This board has heatsinks for all M.2 slots and they seem to do well enough.

She's functional, not flashy. Just like my women ;)

The GPU sags slightly, should I get one of those support bars?

That's an option.
You can also use legos.
The psu cables can come around the top, instead of the bottom, pulling up on the card a little.
You can stack the PCIe guards you took out as shown here:

Either way, you should be able to take something 'round the house to do it.

Thanks! Next time the grands come over I'm stealing some lego's!

Your PCI slots are steel reinforced. I wouldn't worry about the sag unless the look of it bothers you OR if it gets worse. Obviously, there are a number of things you can do, brackets, kickstands, cable supports, but aside from not looking right it's not likely to hurt your board. Could also use a piece of practically invisible fishing line to connect the far corner of the card to the top of the case.

"Honey, I shrunk the computer"

Over this year my computer has been changed a fair bit. My most recent change was swapping from a beat up ATX case to a sff itx case.

I still have some work to do though. The other side panel keeps popping off, I need to fix some cable management.

The 1660 super was an upgrade a few months ago, and before that the b550m pro4 replaced my aging b350.
