i think a company accidentally shipped me 2 128mb dimms instead of 64s; the 128 meg of ram i thought i had the bios, windows, etc. recognizes as 256. any possibility that the system is misrecognizing them, or i am i the victim of cruel and malicious fraud? :)

Count the number of chips on each memory module. Most 64Mb sticks have 8 chips, and 128MB sticks usually have 16 chips. Some lower quality 64MB sticks have 16chips and the lower quality 128MB sticks have 32 chips. If you bought high quality RAM you can tell just by counting chips.

Are there any labels/markings on the RAM? Have you tried them in another computer?

Why doesnt a thing like that ever happen to me.

Anyway i never knew a case in which the amount of memory was falsely recognized. Not counting defective memory offcourse.
So either the memory dimms are indeed 128 mb each or your mobo / memory is defective. the counting of chips is indeed a good way to double check thow. Also on most memory there is an assembly and or factorynumber. With the number you could check with the manufacturer if it is indeed 128 mb.

just my two cents

Hey man i dont know .. i just think i do !!
