I've looked on the lot of other threads and I can't seem to find a solution. I've recently took out my ram because I thought I may have had a bad stick. I have Four sticks of ram each 4gbs, I took them out and put them back in and my computer looks like it's booting up fans work graphics card lights up but sadly I can not get a display on my monitor. I took out the cmos battery for 15 minutes put it back in, took power cord out held the power button for 10 seconds let it drain out but still I'm stuck with mouse not lighting up FX lights on computer not lighting up and no display on monitor. Please help I read a lot of different threads and it seemed like taking cmos battert out helped other people but dosent seen to work with my situation. I know the monitor is working properly because I have my ps4 running through it.

first things first always add your build specs it can potentially help, second try this, remove your cpu cooler and if you can install the dimms (ram sticks) first then cpu cooler. important part* only hand tighten cpu cooler, then test and see if it posts. the leads on the motherboard may have seperated do to too much force. however another easy fix take out all but one stick and install it in the appropriate slot (hence why build specs matter) it will depend on the particular mobo you have. you may have a bad dimm slot shorting you out. message back with update as soon as you try.

I accidentally pushed solved sorry I'm new to tomshsrdware I didn't mean to I don't know how to undo it. Also idk how to post my specs since I can't get on my computer.

no worries i fixed it for you, did you build the computer or is it store bought? either way see if you can tell me the motherboard i will tell you where to insert the ram stick.

That's he same motherboard that I have

ok, sorry for the delay i was looking up the manual just to be safe, so insert in dimm 1, labeled on mobo. test it with just one stick if issues is solved test all sticks individually then if those are good test dimm slots by adding 1 more at a time in accordance with your manual. if none of this workd try taking off cpu cooler as mentioned above. message back with outcomes and if those dont work we will move from there.

It's ok np first off thanks for your help in the first place, I'm gonna try it now and get back too you.

Also do I need to take out the cmos battery every time I try this? IT'S a pain as it's located under my graphics card and need to take it out everytime.

Ok so I placed each 4 in there one by one. TWO out of the 4 go in and turn on like how it was with no display of monitor but then 2 of the sticks do 2 beeps like somethings wrong when I turn on computer vs the other 2 that go in but still doesn't fix my problem and also could u explain why taking the cpu cooler off would change things because to be frank taking things apart is what led me here..

ok, that makes more sense now. first to answer your cpu cooler question, just take it off, GROUNDING YOURSELF! then see if you maybe applied too much thermal paste, never hurts to check, then with a grounded hand very gently rock the cpu cage back and forth to re-position any possible broken leads. then mount it back and hand tighten only the screws. after that install one of the sticks that made a beep in the slot, try to boot. now as far as the beep no beep situation, the ones that are beeping tell me the stick probably works, the 2 short beeps mean either the stick is inserted improperly or in more frequent cases the gpu is not working right. while you are at it reseat the gpu just in case. the no beeping but no help says that your original estimate of some bad sticks may be right as well as you might have displaced the gpu when you were swapping them.

I'm gonna have o get back to u tomorrow as it's getting quite late here. I'll let you know any updates and yes I believe all the ram is the same they have everything the same besides I old guess he serial numbers. All the ram I got was shipped with computer it's not aftermarket so I would only assume they use the same stick. Also like I said everything is same besides I assume serial numbers. Also I really would not like to touch the cpu cooler as I didn't touch it before when it was taking the ram out. I just don't understand why i would mess with that since I never touched it to begin with. Can you explain in detail why I would do this because I really don't want to further my issue with something wrong with cpu if I touch it. I don't wanna create more problems then I have now.

well, ill hear from ya then, sorry to be less explanitory its from past experience in builds that sometimes when ram is forced to hard or improperly seated the little gold looking leads leading from them can get separated (too small to be seen by naked eye) but beleive it or not these are the easy fixes. worst case is when you got your hands into it in the first place you may have esd'ed (electro static discharded) and fried the cpu. i am hoping that the easy fixes are all that is wrong so you dont have to buy and replace new components that are very tempermental such as the cpu.

but just understand this what is happening is a hardware issue, no typing or downloading will fix it. if you are concerned that you may break something see if someone you know can help with the handling part.

I seen this and got a little worried by it could of possibly been cpu fried. Wouldn't the computer have like a beeping noise for it that says cpu is wrong with it? because every time something has been wrong with it, it gives off the beeps that let me know it's hardware related. I replaced the motherboard couple months ago because something went wrong with it. IT gave off the beeps and when I had the different ram in there it would beep. I just truly think it would if that was the case. IT has a cpu pump covering it , it's not just out there.

i understand that, you have to have a cooler or it wont even run, like i said worst case scenario. and no, the motherboard would simply light up or not and nothing would happen. but i dont think thats the issue, im just trying to tell you worst case so you can put it into perspective that simply removing a couple parts to check for errors is a easy and free way to troubleshoot the issue. but in my experience i never rule anything out i just follow symptoms and start at the most likely and easy places, 8/10 ussually the easy fixes that work.

Ok something else I have lights on my computer and also lights on my mouse and neither are lighting up. By the way do you work for the website or is this a random person just helping I'm just curious idk how this site works.

no worries i fixed it again, i do not work for tomshardware. i am random person number 1. i am not offended if you dont trust my suggestions i am just trying to do my best to help people.

No no I'm not offended at all just grateful for your help and suggestions, but I'm gonna wait till I can get a EDS mat or EDS wristband until I mess with it further as I don't wanna have a static discharge when I mess with it more because like I said I don't think I caused a cpu failure because of like I said I belive it would have alerted me with codes telling me somethings wrong. Also idk if it's the same as the shock say when u touch something and u feel it or if it's really like u can still put it off without feeling the shock because I never felt any sorta shock. I've been in that computer a bunch of times without being grounded even when I took apart the motherboard. I never knew about ESD or would have rook that precaution. Also if anyone else have suggestions maybe past experiences always welcome to extra theories or how maybe something with a similar issue and how they fixed it. Once again thanks for your all your insight I really do appreciate the help. I just wished it was as simple as putting the ram that I believe is working back in and it just turn on but sadly sometimes it's never that easy.
