I'll give Fist of Legend another look since so many of you guys love it. It was really hard to get the list down to 15 or 20 let alone 10.

I did find it interesting that in this list and many others like it, there are rarely any boxing movies. Why don't boxing movie fights kick ass? Is it because they are in a controlled environment? I don't know.

here's a movie that most people probably haven't seen, Musa the warrior.
it's got some great fights between different groups of warriors and Musa is a bada$$.

i'm also a big fan of the street fight scene between the two rival gangs in Big Trouble in Little China, although i usually turn down the volume and blast metallica damage incorporated during that scene.

Good movie? No.

Wicked kick-ass fight scene with the Huge Russian? Probably the best underdog fight on film.

I think what really sells it is the look of incredulousness on Frank Castle's face as he doles out what should be opponent-crushing moves with crowbars, kitchen appliances, etc - and the Russian just takes it all and smiles.

The best is when Frank hits the Russian with the crowbar, and the Russian just gives him a look like he's saying "Oh no. You are not going to hit me with that again." Then takes the crowbar from him.

Also when he chucks the grenade at the Russian and he line-drives it like a baseball right back at Frank. Awesome.

I could watch this fight over and over and laugh and enjoy it every time.

Are you guys all 18 years old or what?
What a bogus list.
You want a real good, knock down, drag out fight?
Then try watching the movie "Giant" from the '50's.
Rock Hudson, James Dean and Elizabeth Taylor.
There is an awesome fight scene near the end of the movie between Hudson and some big burly restaurant owner.
It's done so well, it looks like the real thing.
And the hero, Rock Hudson loses.
It's one of the best fight scenes I have ever seen.
No wizz-bangery. Just a good solid fight.

Is that the Korean film that you are talking about or is it some new film?

Yes, it's the 2003 Korean movie by Chan-Wook Park. But I heard that Hollywood is making an American version of the film, and i'm guessing it's going to suck. If you like dark, twisted thrillers, you have to check this movie out. It's disturbingly brilliant.

Sean Thornton vs. Red Will Danaher in the Quiet Man should gete an honorable mention. Any fight where the participants stop in the middle of it to grab a beer rules.

sorry but i ddnt read thru the thread...

WHERE IS " FEARLESS " - JET LEE?

OMG THAT PWNTS EVERYTHING.

* end of rant. *

I have to say the fights in Fearless were stunning(probably best Jet Li fight scene), especially the fight on top of the platform and the one where he kills the older guy.

I dont know about you but I felt that as a fight, the one in Kill Bill 2 between the ladies just doesn't add up. I was dissapointed when I watched that part.

Fearless - Jet Li
Numerous scenes of Chinese martial arts...

Ong Bak - Tony Jaa
I wonder if he can jump higher than those NBA players... awesome fights in the underground fighting club...

Sha Po Lang(SPL) - Wu Jing
Not too famous actor... even in HK... but he was a former martial art champion... the next Jet Li... he plays a supporting role in this movie which also includes some other more well known actors such as: Samuel Hung and Donnie Yan.

Kung Fu - Steven Chow
People tends to think this is a comedy... I quite like the scenes where the 3 hidden kung fu masters come out and fight the bad guys...

that movie is meh for me... not a big fan of slow-mo leaping so you can see a missed hit easier... but that's just me. 😉

Pretty good list overall, and some good suggestions here as well.

I wanted to recommend the duel between Liam Neeson and Tim Roth at the end of "Rob Roy", which is one of the few movie swordfights that actually feels real to me. It's rapier vs. broadsword, with bursts of furious action interspersed with bouts of manuevering during which you can see the participants planning their next moves like a pair of chess players. It is very clear that these are two veterans fighting for their lives, and the result is one of the best swordfights ever put to film.

Good call on that one... this list is degenerating to just a fake kung fu fest...

Holy CRAP! How did I forget Rob Roy?!?!?!?!?!

I love that movie and actually prefer it over Braveheart, and the final fight is probably the biggest reason (also better acting, too). Absolutely one of the best sword fights ever filmed. Maybe we need anothe list specifically for swordplay....

No. No. No.
No. No. No.
No.
No. No.

Any list of great movie fights that does not list "The Princess Bride" as the singular greatest movie fight (and when you think about it, the movie is mostly one big running fight) of all time does not deserve to exist. Inigo Montoya and Wesley are basically sword geeks showing off to each other and their fight is only the most spectacular of a series of incredible fights: Wesley and the Giant, the Battle of Wits, the Fire Swamp. There is simply no comparison.

The rest of the list is pretty good, although the omission of any kind of western movie fight should be indicative of the amount of thought put into this list. For the record, Trinity and the Bar Bet in "Lonesome Gun" should be the greatest western "fight" ever (do shot glasses count as opponents?), although pretty much any fight in the Trinity movies is better than any other western fight; Trinity vs the Card Sharp in "Trinity Is STILL My Name!"comes in a close second.

In conclusion, No.

I wish my favorite movie Grosse Point Blank would have made the top ten. The part were he shoots that guy in the kitchen, then hits him with the frying pan, then shoots him again is priceless!

I don't know why journalists have to ALWAYS deliver a controversial (read unworthy) list. My guess is, that if you tell what everybody already knows, then it becomes something boring.

The wildest the list, the more controversy it generates, which means more dicussion, and more hits.... that's about it. If we all agree, then it's no news... There's only one exception, when the answer is so obvious, that it would be stupid not to mention (for example any game journalist who doesn't put zelda ocarina of time in the top 10 games of all time, would look silly, to say the least).

And about number 1 in the list, the star wars episode 1 fight, while I admit it's entertaining, I'll tell you what I felt the moment I saw it.... I laughed my ass off!!! It had such a ridiculous choreography, seemed more like a ballet dance (image the fight without the swords, and you'll get it), they did some power ranger poses in between, it had slow feet movements, and they didn't seem like real swordmen. I also remember some ridiculous little jump obiwan made, I laughed even harder...

By far, the greatest fights done on movies, are the bruce lee ones, and jakie chan is next. Asian fighters (specially chinese) are graceful on their movements while showing strength and speed (but a little over the top moves as well!)

I can easily tell, the article's author just did some very personal, un-objective, biased list (and is a die hard star wars fanboy!), but that's commonplace, so....

I guess this would be a bad time to mention that my Top 10 Games List doesn't include Ocarina of Time.

I don't even know what that is. Then again I'm not a game journalist :)

I'd have to say, he does have a point about your #1... com'mon, that was a lame fight. That should not have even been in the top 50.

Luke vs. Darth Vadar was THE highly anticipated fight that delivered - but still doesn't deserve #1.

Seems like you, and a bunch of others, like the ultra fake kung fu movies (btw - all those Kung fu folks would get their arses whipped in a UFC fight... kung fu = all show and no substance). That being said, you might as well included Charlie's Angels on your list. :x :x

I also agree with other posters that the lack of a western is a big weakness in the list.

But, thanks for taking the time to write the article 8)
