Hi
I do 3D models and rigs, need to run needy sculpting and painting applications and sometimes need to do some rendering and video processing for tutorials. I never had a laptop in my life, but I'll be out of home for a month and a half and still have an decent level of operability.
My dream is sort of Wacom Companion 2 or an another Hybrid PC, which I would couple with my own keyboard and a mouse and call it done. But disregarding the price the battery life on the CC2 seems quite poor even though I'll probably be plugged in where I go. I won't be able to use this on my lap, I'll probably rely on the stand all the time, but I imagine it would give me the most comfort vs a normal laptop. Anyone with experience with this?

As for normal laptops, from the times I tried, I really deslike the coupling of keyboard and display... First, the keys are not at the edge but after a useless keypad, and even if they were at the edge they seem to be at an uncomfortable height. Dunno, maybe there are very comfortable laptops out there and I'm being silly I just felt like going "Igor" when I had to use one... That said I still might have to compromise and get one, so here is what I'm looking for:

- Good battery life. I was expecting something like 6h. Maybe I'm asking to much as I have little experience with laptops.
- Fair display. At home I have a U2412M, 200/250€ IPS display that is not top of the line but has fair quality. I'm really not sure about the dimensions of the display I'm a bit afraid anything will seem small, but for resolution HD1080 is the minimum.
- Smart solid build, that feels though for mobility and doesn't betray you in the "middle of nowhere" either by the design of the building quality
- GPU/CPU/RAM that supports the mentioned tasks. GPU doesn't need to be beast, RAM 8GB or more. CPU is probably the most important.
- At least 256 SDD

If anyone has had good experiences with either an Hybrid or a laptop with these characteristics for the mentioned taks, thank you for the suggestions :)

Cheers

I actually have heard of this brand called Sager...

this is a beefy one with an option for a 256GB m.2 drive.
Thanks SherbetAddict
That's a bit too much though. At home I run a GTX760 (not that is not needing upgrade). Since I don't render with GPU it just has to handle some of the more viewport intensive applications like 3D-Coat and have some CUDA cores, like the 760 has. Don't need to go up to a 980. If any I would invest more on a good CPU.

Cheers

Thanks!
This reminds me of something I was looking at.
Lenovo's ThinkPad

I'm sure in a couple of years this will be a much easier choice. We're in a transition :)

Main issue with those is the Intel Graphics. We went from GF 980 to some cards I have no clue how they will perform. Otherwise great machines and great references. Thank you!

Surface book not shipping on time. Need the machine before the end of the month

Thanks again!

Pricey like anything by Razer :)

I was looking at a Clevo build:

IPS display, etc, seems to cover a lot of ground for a nice price.

I'm from Europe. Anyone knows more custom build store worth of mention?

The regular store laptops either have HD Graphics GPU or don't have SSD, so it's always something missing...

Have you considered the Surface Pro 4, it has gotten insane good reviews and I like the 2i1 funktion and design. Some people complained about the build quality of the surface keyboard and that you have to buy it separately, but I guess that wont be a problem if you´re gonna use your own anyways.
