Question Toshiba 1TB external drive issues?

My Toshiba 1 TB external hard drive is playing up
I use it to store Movies and music videos files

Now when I play files back it stops and starts momentarily , maybe just for a half second or so.
More so in fast moving scenes or loud audio moments
Seems ok for storing pics or documents tho

I thought of formatting the drive and starting all over again with it .
Would this help or is there something else worth trying?

Examine the drive's SMART report. You could use CrystalDiskInfo.
