The bigger the drive, the more error prone they are, but the more they put into error correction and the like. I think HDDs in general now are less reliable in general now than maybe 15 years ago, but they're also a magnitude bigger. I run two 3Tb drives in my computer, and back them up regularly to a pair of 3Tb drives that I have an external dock for. That way I have everything relatively backed up, and often enough that if one of the drives fails, either the backup or the regular, I can buy a new one relatively quickly to replace it, above and beyond that, I replace the drives when the warranties run out(those become the backup drives). The only drive that I hear good things about often are the WD Black drives. But recently, failure rates seem to be in line with prices. I think. Good advice, but I am on medication, so not sure as to the accuracy of my statement.
