Toshiba laptop has black screen

Hello, I have a Toshiba L500 Series Laptop, when I went to turn it on, I can hear it is on, but the screen is black or blank, I have tried removing the battery for 30 seconds, and rebooting, nothing. Same black screen, no cursor or anything?

Not enough information to work off of here, but my first guess is that either the backlight or inverter have failed.
