Hello,

I own a Toshiba Qosmio G55-Q804, Laptop. It originally had an Intel Core Duo P7350 Processor, and its Chipset is an Intel PM45. According to all my research, the PM45 chipset is compatible with the Intel Core Duo T9900, which is a significant upgrade. When I installed the CPU the first time and tried to turn it on, the hardware made noise like it wanted to boot up, but the display was black, and there was no audio from the speakers from the usual boot up noise. When I took the T9900 out and put the old CPU back in, the computer worked. So I tried putting the T9900 in again, and I had the exact same issue again.

I've heard that the CMOS needs to be reset or something when doing something like this but I could not find where that is on my motherboard. Can someone help me figure out what might be the problem so I can upgrade the CPU?

Solution
"which only offered up to 2.30"

That's the latest version, there is no later BIOS version for that laptop model.

I don't know why it won't boot with the T9900 installed other than it perhaps not being supported.
Most likely the BIOS version for that laptop model needs updating to the latest available from Toshiba Support website. Be sure to use the correct website for your geographical area.

I may have complicated matters by changing the Operating System from Windows Vista to Linux Mint, but prior to that I did make sure the BIOS was updated to APCI BIOS 2.30. I used this website to update, which only offered up to 2.30 (PQG55U) https://support.dynabook.com/support/modelHome?freeText=2140532&osId=3333635
