Question Total noob, transferring Win10 onto DOS, I’m not even sure what to ask…...

Hi everyone

I wonder whether anyone could assist me

I’m totally new to such things

I’ve got a spare desktop computer (a gift) gathering dust. Never used. 16 GB RAM, SSD drive, Ryzen 7 5700G CPU, etc etc.

Its OS is DOS (please don’t ask why…...)

I’d like (if possible) to install, on it, the (legit) Win10 Home I’ve got on another desktop. I’ve got its key and a recovery drive (a USB stick) I previously created. I’m aware that, in order to install it officially on the new computer, I may have to void the licence on the previous PC. Fair enough.

I’ve read a few articles on the internet, but they all seem to take for granted experience in installing Windows on DOS.

Could anyone, please, kindly direct me to some step-by-step tutorial, article, etc, for a technically challenged (or worse…...) doofus such as myself??

In advance, thank you all very much

Christian

Because they don't have to pay anything for it but can still sell their system as one having an OS...
I know you didn't ask, but I had to answer anyway.

Just get a microsoft account on the PC that already has windows 10 on it and you will be able to connect to the new install of windows 10 on the new PC by using the same e-mail.

As skynetrising already hinted at you just need to follow any install guide, just make sure to boot from the install usb you create and you will be able to delete the dos partition and install windows on the system.

I see. So, if (a big “if”) I understand correctly, I’ve got to delete DOS while installing Win10.

I mistakenly believed I somehow had to keep DOS.

Thank you very much TerryLaze

Yes, if you follow the guide posted before it tells you to do a custom install, they show showing an completely empty drive but they tell you to delete all existing ones. If you do that the installation will compete as normal.
