Im wanting to transfer windows 10 from my old pc to my new pc to save money, however im not sure what the easiest method is.

Solution
Setup a Microsoft Account and link your current PC to it , then backup whatever you want to save and perform a clean install on your new setup and activate it with your Microsoft account from within windows. Skip the key entry during setup and activate it from within windows with the registered Microsoft Account.

Create a USB installer here ^

+1! What a headache!

Shouldn't you automatically be given an admin account when installing with one user on a home system though? How would he have not had an admin account? Am curious.

The first account you create is an admin acct.
However, do not use that for everyday functions.

Create a new, standard user.
All my systems have at least 2 accounts. The Admin guy and then a Normal guy for actual daily use.

The Admin Guy only gets used when absolutely needed.

It needed to be Updated to at least the Anniversary release, from August 2016.
v. 1607.

I did ask the OP what version of win 10 they were on, shows how to check it and linked to the windows upgrade assistant that could install latest version of win 10, as I noticed the way it said he was activated was worded slightly different to my pc (I haven't changed my entitlement, its still linked to this PC).

I have 2 admin accounts, mainly as 1 was my MSA but it started having login issues so I made a new local user. Having to put my admin password in to do almost anything UAC related got old in 3 days and I made this local account an admin as well. Kept old user as its a handy backup.
