hello

so ill start off a few months ago when one of my 8gb sticks went faulty or something causing my pc to spontaneously crash, i ended up re setting the pc not realizing the ram was at fault then ended up taking it out, so now im left with 8 gb (ddr3). i recently purchased 16 gb (2x8) of corsair vengence ddr3 pro series 1600mhz memory and tried to replace my old one, when i booted it for the first time it worked for a short amount of time then it crashed, ever since it just boots into a screen saying ''uefi dual bios'' or something then re boots into that over and over, i cant even get into bios. i tried re setting the battery thing on the mother board, maybe i didnt do it correctly but it didnt change anything, i tried with one stick, still the same as before. im not good at explaining but i hope you get the picture, please get back to me as soon as possible, thank you for your help

yea the old ram works, and i cant even find the mobo on the site. dang it, i guess ill just have to wait till i upgrade my whole system till i can turn my settings up haha

well [Beep], they have one that is a Z instead of Y in the memory ID thing but not the one i have, guess ill just have to wait to upgrade my whole system. learn from your mistakes i guess

i was going to get the MSI 970 gaming mobo but i looked on their site and i couldnt find my memory on the supported list, but on pc part picker it says its compatible, do you know whats going on?

i have also looked at the ram's website and they said its compatibility is with intel 3/4th gen chips, im planning to get an amd fx8350 and on pc part picker again it doesnt say they are not compatible so im not sure whats going on

The QVL is an iffy thing at best since all ram is not tested, just a select few models. Pretty much Hazard an assumption that if corsair Vengeance pro is listed at any size and speed, then any size/speed will be compatible.

The one thing that won't be compatible is the voltages. While older Intel and Amd fx are quite comfortable at 1.65v, your board only supports 1.5v dram, and you can get the CVPro in either voltage. If you accidentally got the 1.65v set, it'll probably not work in your board.

ah right, yeah my board sucks so that probably what happened, so the msi 970 modo did support some corsair vengance pro so that should work then? also just because the ram says ''compatible with intel 3/4th gen chips'' doesnt mean it wont work with amd chips right?

Right. Not all models of all brands, not even all brands are tested, so it's entirely probable with newer ram and newer gen cpus/mobo's that it'll work just fine. Pretty much out of the days when double sided, high or low density ram made a difference. 3rd gen was Ivy Bridge and 4th gen was Haswell cpus. Prior to them, most cpus were quite comfortable with 1.65v ram, and no one said anything. 1.5v ram started to get popular around that time and by 4th gen, Intel squished it even further with claims of compatibility needing 1.5v and 1.65v ram was now taboo. So if the ram is stating it's 4th gen compatible, good chance it's 1.5v not 1.65v, so will be compatible with your cpu too.
Since it seems to be a bios issue, have you pulled the battery yet? Reset cmos?

i have tried but i think i did it poorly, i took it out them a second later flipped it and turned it 180 degrees and touched it down on the negative then put it back how it was before

Uh yeah, that was poorly done. Just pull the battery, wait a few minutes then reinstall. It's possible that when flipping the battery you've corrupted the A bios, at this time it would be prudent to flip the bios switch to B before reinstall of the battery. Hopefully it will boot. If it does, as soon as you can I'd flash an updated bios to A via Gigabyte website, then return the switch to A before making any modifications to B bios, so that B bios remains in factory condition.

ok, ill try that next time i have access to my computer, ill get back to you as soon as then.

should i install the ram, then re set the cmos ?

i installed the memory then re set the bios, stilll wont boot up, not sure how to switch bios's

On my board, theres an A/B bios toggle switch right next to the cmos battery. Your user manual should have that answer, or you can dl one from Gigabyte, who'll also explain any steps necessary to perform the bios swap.

all right ill look into that, do you think maybe if i booted my pc with one of my new sticks and an old one it would recognise the new one?

If anything, I'd boot with just a single new stick, see if it works. Try it in at least 2 different slots. Then try the other new stick. It may very well come down to needing a bios flash done right. With a good possibility of a corrupted bios, being able to boot to the secondary bios is a good option on that board. I'd also make sure all the motherboard drivers etc are updated. Try and eliminate all possibilities.

alright, ill get back to you once i have tried a few things

hmm, so i tried putting in the new ram one by one, didnt work, but then i tried mixing one of the new sticks with the old one and it worked, i dont know if its dangerous or anything, the old ram was set to 2133mhz but when i put the new one in they are both locked at 1333 . i tried then taking the old one out after i had made the mix of both of them work and adding the remaining new one but that didnt work. would it be better to just have the 1 stick at 2133 or both (from different companies) at 1333? and do you think there is a way i could get the second stick to work? i couldnt find how to switch bios's.
