TROUBLE WITH COM PORTS

I have a client with a DC200 Kodak digital camera and a clone PC with standard com ports which the camera uses to communicate with. When the camera does its com check the computer reports an error in communicating with the computer choose another port or another speed. I have tried all possible speed settings, the com ports are working properly (no ! in DM), bios settings are set to auto, no conflicts period. I take the camera to another PC with similar settings and the camera has no problems. Is it common for com ports to go out like that and if so what is my remedy?
By the way the PC has a DFI LX MOBO

Does the camera fail on both ports?
Do you have another serial device with which to verify that the ports are working?
I would suggest (hard) setting the ports in BIOS. (Don't use "Auto") then verify (in Device Manager) that Windows is in fact using the same IRQ that you set in BIOS. IRQ steering in Windows can often muck up communications with peripherals.
