Problem
The first problem that lead me to troubleshoot the build was that, the graphics card picture output would scramble after about an hour of play.
With or without the the graphics card, after sleep, the computer becomes unresponsive. If it does wake up at all, it's the sign-in screen with the mouse moving, but you can't enter your password because it is frozen. I swapped the motherboard to the Z87-A from the GA-z87-DS3H. The graphics card is still having the same scrambled pic. I swapped the monitor and the same results.
The computer seems to be working better except for the waking-up problem and the graph scramble after an hour. I ran a MemTest Extended using 1 pass. No problems detected. I tested HDMI inputs as well as DVI and the same problems. I bought the CPU open-box. I tested the CPU with the intel diagnostic application. It tested fine.
Does this sound familiar to anyone? I belive all that is left to swap is the CPU and PSU. The PSU has Haswell support, so I wonder if this is a power state recovery problem coming from the PSU. On the other hand the cpu has built in graphics, but that is not used when the graph card is installed. Correct? Does this sound like a CPU or PSU problem? If i swap the PSU next, will that tell me if the CPU is bad. Like if the problem persists it would be the CPU?
Thanks in advance for any help.
