Question [Troubleshooting] Black screen - Totally random - Nothing event viewer and no minidumps

Hi guys, my spec is as follows:
12700K
3080 (palit)
32GB 2x16GB Corsair DDR4
MSI MPG Z690 Edge wifi
Corsair CX750f

My problem occurs completely randomly. Both DP and HDMI - I have not had it happen on integrated which is why I'm close to RMAing the GPU while I still am in warranty.

Out of nowhere my PC will blackscreen. It blackscreens hard and I need to force shut down and reboot - Sometimes it might require more, a CMOS hasn't even fixed this and I've had to change power sockets and fiddle with CMOS/RAM a few times to get any booting. Reseating the GPU can help.

I'll be on a game and boom black screen - From what I can tell, having youtube on in the background and a few tabs does make it more likely but it's just so random, some nights I can use dual monitor and no problems all night with loads of tabs.

When it does happen, it happens very quickly in short succession on reboot.

For example: I've just had two black screens - one after an hour of gaming then I rebooted got one while loading up the game after 3 mins onto desktop and now I've rebooted gone straight into OCCT and stressed everything.... no crashes.

There's nothing in event viewer. No minidumps.

I can complete superposition set to 4k no problem without a crash.

I've ran OCCT on GPU/CPU/Power/Memory and no problem. I may then load up wow and just on the loading screen I'll black screen. Or not. It's anyones guess.

Does anyone know what kind of tests I can do to really pinpoint this? I DDU my GPU drivers a lot, this problem has been periodically getting worse and I cannot put my finger on it, I really need some kind of tool to be monitoring and writing my whole PCs performance before a crash - All my temps are fine, GPU and CPU hit max 70ish at 100%

I'm currently running just 16GB of the memory, after swapping ports and swapping what is in to see if any difference - No difference.

I'm not even sure how to force the blackscreen, it's really throwing me off!!

Any test ideas? Anyone with an inclination what might be doing this? Thank you for any help

Have you tried running old GPU drivers from before the problem started occurring? Similarly, I've had a string of about 4 months of Nvidia drivers in the past that would randomly blackscreen rendering some things, the only one that was consistent was the workspace in Affinity Designer.

I don't think your psu is a good fit for a 3080 gpu.
You might want to shop for quality 850w or bigger psu.

Hey man, yeah, well older drivers as in a 6 month old one then new, no diff 🙁

You might be right. When I was building it though the maths came out that when in full stress I was around 650/670 or less, I'll need to check again.
It's such a bizarre fault that I did keep thinking PSU. But why has it only just now started getting so bad 🙁

Bump - memtest86 came back fine on both sticks.
My only view now is GPU or PSU. Not sure how to 100% the fault is either

Update* It just blackscreened. Shut down. Wouldn't boot back up. Did a CMOS Reset and then booted, no display. Had to take the DP cable out of the GPU and put it back in, same slot and it displayed after a reboot...

I'm hovering on it being the GPU

Update: Graphics card has gone to manufacturer been through vigorous testing multiple monitors 4k etc, no crash at all 48hrs+
I've now swapped out my power supply for another 750w
I've installed windows 11 fresh
Samsung states m.2 is fine.
Crashing INSTANTLY on 4k benchmarks on superposition and when i loaded into Elden ring on 4k.

Used different DP and HDMI.

The crashes are an instant shut down and restart.

I get no crashes at all when using integrated graphics only.

At this point it's my motherboard or processor and I don't know how to test. Any ideas?

Swapping one under powered psu for another under powered psu won't tell you much.

Get a proper psu just to get it out of the mix.

3090, 3080,2080Ti, and 2080 are known for very bad power spikes.

My 2080Ti would drop my second monitor for a few seconds with a EVGA 850w G2, then after a while would just hard reboot the system. Luckily i had a 1600w G2 laying around that i swapped in and fixed the issue.

I would ether get a very good 850w or move up to a 1000w PSU for that card.
