Troubleshooting microphone setup in vista

Hello,
I have a headset/microphone I use for game chat (ventrilo), when speaking it causes massive bass reverb/feedback on others receiving the signal.

I did get it muted on my system so I'm not talking through my own speakers, but my guildies don't like the feedback on their end.

Help me please...

Have you solved this issue yet? Maybe try a different headset/mic on the system or try your current mic on another system and see what you get.
