Question Troubleshooting Old PC - Turns on instantly after plugged in and then doesn't turn off

Hi everyone,

I'm reviving an old office PC that i had laying to run a cloud storage server on. I've got a weird problem in that the PC turns on instantly when plugged in, no need for the power button, and then will not turn off via the power button. There is no display output happening however there is power to the CPU fan, HDD and a PCIe networking card is getting power as it is hot. I'm guessing it's either the cpu or motherboard but any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Charlie

Update your post to include full system hardware specs and OS information.

The case switch could be shorted closed.

PSU: make, model, wattage, age, condition?

Go online to find the applicable motherboard User Manual along with the applicable manuals/guides for other installed components and the case as well.

Double check that all connections are correct and that there are no damaged, kinked, pinched, or melted wires.
