Hey all, I'm having some trouble getting my Brother HL-L2305W to connect to my wireless network. Unfortunately I bought my router used and the prior owner had flashed DD-WRT. I've tried everything to flash it to Merlin, to no avail. So I'm stuck with DD-WRT. I can't find any settings in DD-WRT about WPS. But my WPS button on my Asus RT-AC68U doesn't seem to have any effect, so I'm thinking it's being overridden by DD-WRT. Long story short, I can't use WPS to connect.

So my other option is setting up the wireless settings using a USB cable to the printer during set up. No issues - I have the right cable. However, when I go through the install screens, I get to the point where the Brother software says "Temporarily connecting your device to your computer" "To configure the wireless device settings, temporarily connect your computer to the device using a USB cable". I'm getting frustrated because I've done that, but it's not recognizing the connection and won't let me click next. I've turned the printer on and off, unplugged both ends of the connection (printer and PC) and tried 4 different USB ports (3 on the front, 1 on the back, only 1 of them USB 3.0). The weirdest part is that I'm able to print to the printer since it's connected via the USB cable, despite the install software not recognizing the connection.

I decided to try using the USB cable and attempting the install process using my laptop instead of desktop. 2 more USB ports and the exact same result. Able to print to the printer, but not able to complete the wireless setup because it doesn't recognize that the device is connected. I don't know if this is a Brother software issue, Windows issue, or what. I don't think it's the USB cable, since that has no issues printing when connected.

For what it's worth, I have nearly an identical issue with a 2nd HP printer I use, so I ended up just hardwiring that via the USB cable and keeping it near my PC. I don't have the same option with this new Brother printer, unfortunately. And I'd really like a wireless printer that can print from multiple devices.

Have you tried configuring the wireless settings from the printer's control panel?

That worked, thank you! Now if only my HP LaserJet P1102w had the same interface that allowed me to manually input the network settings. It took a few minutes to get my wifi password input on the Brother, but it's working as expected now.
