Trying to figure out if my PSU is busted?

Hi, I've got a Solid Gear SDGR-650E that came with a bare-bones kit I bought off of Tiger Direct almost exactly two years ago and I can't seem to figure out if the problem I've been having the past 24 hours is my power supply or something else in the computer.

Yesterday night I had my computer on while hanging out with a friend and it just suddenly shut off, no shut-down or closing anything just suddenly off.

I left it off for the night, cleaned out any dust inside and turned it on this morning and everything seemed fine, until it shut off suddenly again about 2 hours ago.

I looked up some info and did the 'green-wire' test once I separated it from the rest of the computer and It worked once, but if I try to do it again it doesn't do anything.
Is the power supply actually dead or is it something else wrong with my system?

(Also, sorry if this has already been answered. I did a few quick searches here, but I wasn't sure if it working once and then not again might warrant a different answer??)

See if you can borrow one from a friend first to confirm but sounds like it's gone.

Solid Gear Power supplies are horrible quality , I wouldn't run one on any build or setup , purchase a new one.

Oh, I just ordered a SDGR-750E which had better ratings than the 650E. Is there a brand you'd recommend that would probably work with my system?

I would try to get one from at the least tier 3 from this list tier 1 or 2 would be better but tier 3 should at least get you away from garbage.

You do realize the 750W one is probably exactly the same as the 650W one but just with a different number on it, right?

Those things are absolute garbage. You are just another victim to those who think of labelled wattage as something of value, unfortunately. 🙁

Also never ever ever ever ever look at Amazon or Newegg reviews for power supplies. Ever.

It doesn't really matter where you order a power supply as long as it's a good one. Newegg has good prices usually. If you tell me your budget and specs I'd be happy to assist with options.

I can probably go up to about $120 including shipping, but I need to make sure I'll get it before Friday (College semester's going to be starting so I have to move)

Nah, never looked into it. I'll take a look at some of the PSU suggestions in a few minutes.
