I was building a second system for working with really old video files off MiniDV tapes, etc. The motherboard is based from 2006 and is a Gigabyte GA-M55 Plus- S3G. The video card is extremely old, but it does have a vga, hdmi, and dvi output on it. It I think was an AMD 5000 series card. The power supply is a brand new EVGA 400 watt, the $50 dollar one with cables permanently attached. There is a 1TB SATA hard drive, plus a brand new ADATA 480 GB SSD using SATA connection. There is a new PCI-E card for USB-C and USB 3 ports on the back, plus I used the USB 3 connector on the card for internal connections on the case. Finally there is a 25+ year old PCI card for video capture.

All this was mounted inside a new case that has one 5 1/4" bay, where there is a SATA DVD-R drive in there. I think that is about it. All connections were done by me, and it seems pretty straight forward. The CPU is the AMD Athlon 64 II 5600+ and it dropped right into the slot with no bent pins. Both the CPU and motherboard were tested running before sold to me.

Now the issue- using either the HDMI or VGA connection, I get a "No signal" on that input. For VGA I tried both the video card output and also the VGA output on the board. Nothing on the tv. The computer turns on nicely and off again when you push the case button. I just get nothing on the screen. Being I cant see the video signal, I have a hard time tracking down where the problem might be. There is absolutely nothing on the hard drives, as they are completely blank. So no Windows. I was planning on putting Vista 64 bit on there if I could get it running.

So what could I check before I give up and bring it to a tech to look at?

At least check GPU works on another motherboard. Also apple used the 5000's back then in there systems and if so it would have been bios flashed to work only on a mac, so if you used it on a windows PC you would get black screen. So there was a mac version and a windows version of those old cards. Just an FYI

"Try booting with just 1 stick in the 2nd RAM slot. One stick could be faulty."

Did that just now. Pulled 3 sticks and left 1 stick in slot 2 (second from the right). Nothing changed. Im not even sure this ram is meant for PCs or not.

Did you try all the RAM sticks?
Have you tried clearing the CMOS?
Have you tried booting to the motherboards onboard graphics with the video card removed?

I decided to sent back the ram I bought, as it is subpar anyway. There is a local guy here selling Kingston 2GB sticks (4 of them) for 10 bucks. So Im going to try and get that.

Then I will try to clear the CMOS (if I can find the exact spot on the board to short). I did try the onboard graphics, but the other card was still on the board. I will remove it next round.
