I have repeatedly attempted to reinstall Win98se. It gets through 31% of
copying windows files and tells me that I interrupted progress. I have not
done anything in any of my atttempts but to allow the installation to run.
The error message tells me that I can ok, cancel, or skip. Telling it to
skip will just bring up the message again and again without any progress
beyond 31% complete. This computer is a Gateway 600mhz Pentium3. I have
spent much time on numerous occasions with Gateway support people without
satisfaction.
I am hoping that someone knows what is happening and respond with a
solution.
Thank for now!

Bernard,

I did a Google search on your problem and came up with one idea:

"Sorry to be so long getting back, I had to step away from the
machine for awhile before I killed it. I'm using a boot disk from
boot disk.com and the Windows 98 cd is the one that came with
the computer. It's a Compaq. It just keeps telling me that I
interrupted during file copy. I cleaned the disk. Then, I thought
maybe the cd drive was bad so I replaced it, but I'm still getting
the same message for the same exact files. I think maybe my disk
is bad. I wouldn't mind getting a new Windows cd, but I'm
assuming I'd need the full version for the broken computer and I
want to get just the upgrade for our 'real' computer. I really don't
want to spend that kind of money right now. I had some
installation disks from an old Gateway but naturally it told me that
that could only be used on a Gateway, which I don't think is fair,
because that computer is no longer operational and I should be
able to use the program."

P.S. I have had a problem installing a program off a CD before (it justg
stops installing). It turns our the CD was dirty. Cleaning it solved
the problem.

gateway used to have an app called "GWSCAN" one for drives under 10 Gig
and one for drives larger than 10 Gig. This app works on any drive and
it does a low level format of your hard drive. after running it your
drive is as clean as a new drive.
