Car idea... like the ONSTAR TV ad in which an operator sends the KILL command to a stolen SUV... imagine a hack or error which sends out the KILL code to all of their cars... ouch.

Anyways... yeah, this is another reason why PC gaming is suffering. Punish the people who buy your software, really good. Its why I don't buy EA games with their SecuROM and UBI can now stick it too!

Great job... so if UBI sells their company or goes out of business, the people who spent $40~50 per copy of their games have... NOTHING!
Game requiring server access is BS, unstable internet connections will play havoc with some players... and they pay for this?

Basic anti-piracy protection is all they should bother with (CD-key), it'll stop the basic user from giving copies to their friends.

THERE is NEVER a game out there that doesn't GET cracked within 1~3 days in the wild (before or at the release date). Mirrors edge, BioShock, etc... all of them, cracked.

Meanwhile... I don't buy their games. I don't want their root-kit secuROM software on my computer or the install limitations. So, when Mirrors Edge is about $10 or less, I may buy it... then get a cracked version to actually use.

I have bought my games, I have my own keys... And if I played nice and had BioShock on my desktop, I'd have already be screwed with its DRM.

People should demand refunds everytime this happens.

PC gaming is in trouble, DRM isn't helping. The pirates are not helping. And Microsoft for sure isn't helping? Count the number of MS games for Xbox and see how many are also for Windows?

So let me get this straight, people who pirated the game could play the game perfectly fine this weekend, while those who forked out the 50-70 bucks could not? Interesting.

They need someone more than the janitor to -monitor- their servers.

OK. Let me get this straight:

Ubi: "Let's launch a massive, unpopular, intrusive Big Brother anti-piracy measure, but not let's hire anybody temporarily, pay anybody overtime or make our salaried people come in on a Saturday to make sure the servers work on on the weekend."

I play mainly on the weekends. I have a job. My kids play mostly on the weekends. They're in school.

I played the previous version of Silent Hunter. You have to have hours in a block to do anything, especially when learning the game.

This fiasco is the dumbest thing I've seen in a very, very long time.

I wonder how much French labor laws have to do with this nonsense.

I must say thqat anyone who buys any DRM stuff whether a game, movie, book, etc is a fool and is only helping out the corporate asses and not themselves or the public.
Why not just have a massive boycott and not buy anything until it is DRM free.

I do not own any digital files bought with DRM and I buy CD's and paper based books.I also buy all movies used and not new so hollywood gets no money from me.

[citation][nom]tipoo[/nom]Ubisoft is pretty much telling us to go out and buy parrots, wooden legs, and eye patches.[/citation]

Better yet, just don't play their games. Nothing about the situation makes me want to pirate their software, only avoid their titles.

so the only people who can play are the pirates...

I remember when my friend bought warcraft 3, it wouldn't let him put the disk in his CD burner, the copy protection stopped him from playing the game! I had to give him the crack that I had got when I pirated the game! I'd been playing it fine for a while! I later bought the game obviously, because it was awesome.

the moral of the story? Ubisoft are tossers!

Software that is worth it, and that is not purposely gimped by the developers, yes. Something like this that crashes your game to the start menu if your internet cuts for a tenth of a second, no, I would not pay for it.

See how much software you have to pirate when the honest people stop paying.

I keep seeing "STEAM" wanna be's and such comments here, but that really is not true. When you buy a game and download it from Steam you only have to have an internet connection to initally activate the game the first time.... after that, you don't have to ever sign into Steam again to play the game. Well unless you purchase an Ubisoft Title.

It really irks me to see Steam thrown into this and people think Steam %like% Ubisoft, so I won't buy from Steam... and its not true... Its the way they are able to allow you to have the game a week in advance ready to go so you don't have to wait 16 hours to download a 20 gig game in one day when its released... they give it to you early, and then decrypt it the day of launch and then you never really need steam again to run it. Now if you want patches and such, its good to log in and let Steam run in the background as it keeps games up to date and actually makes for a nice central place of where all the games I have bought are at.

Plus the community and the voice chat work well, especially in the Beta of Steam that is going to launch soon. It reminds me of an XBOX 360 interface letting your friends know which games your in and when your online. You can even add your Non-Steam games to the interface so that you can access the Shift-Tab menu and you friends can see what game your in, if you so choose.

Overall Steam is the best online retailer around.... Impluse is second and D2D(Direct2Drive) is utter crap, or was utter crap the last time I used them... I will reserve current judgement as I have not used their service recently.... having Silent Hunter 5 I can say bahhh on Ubisoft and Bahhh on those who bash Steam or have misconceptions about it.

The ''honest'' people are simply lacking the skills. You need to be on the top 10% to effectively pirate everything in sight, without getting f*cked that is.

I only pay for MPcentric stuff on steam. Like BF:Bad company 2, Arma2, etc.

The only exception being Bioware games and my AnyDVD.

Missed the point by a mile, have we? As in, if all the honest people stop buying software legitimately because piracy is easier and cheaper, there will no longer be any software to pirate because companies won't even make enough money to recoup their development costs.
