Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion had 0 DRM, literally 0. no cd key, you didn't even need the disk. you could install it on your buddy's comp and now he has it too. I'm pretty sure that it was a very successful game and when ES V comes out soon, i will be buying the collectors edition.

it kills me that they want to do this to Diablo 3 as well. lol, and they're saying the online requirement isn't for DRM...

Unless consumers make a united effort to boycott companies which insist on Draconian DRM measures I don't see this going away any time soon. By releasing news that "DRM is a success" (whether or not it actually is)Ubisoft is building a case, albeit weak, that they can point to when people complain.

I've "tried" many of the titles mentioned. Most were available easily. I refuse to buy a game these days without trying it. I get tired of getting the latest hyped title that amounts to less than 2 hours gameplay because it gets old so quick. I think that's what DRM is for. Preventing people from finding out how boring a game is before buying it.

Why cant they just cut the price and sell it in huge volume? you get the same amount of money. It is the ultimate way to kill/reduce piracy. DRM wont work, it just make piracy stronger.

“a clear reduction in piracy of our titles which required a persistent online connection, and from that point of view the requirement is a success.”

Really?? well looking at torrent sites its not, they are all cracked and have been that way since the release of all those games the only thing i see is the inconvenience of having to be connected by legit owners.

Many customers have passed up those games there are quite a few people out there that have NO access to internet.

There is no drm that has not been cracked in history not sure how they can call it a success?.

So success that I never buy UbiSoft games !

Continue spy people UbiSoft.
All are terrorist, pervert, hacker, etc.

Wonderful !

A combination of a lack of content and the scary DRM stuff has pretty much pushed me out of the gaming market. Why do I have to go to a Warez site to use my copy of my software that I bought, properly? So I just play Free2Play, and that's it... And even that has problems...

[citation][nom]kartu[/nom]They pretend to fight pirates (or maybe are really so dumb to care whether someone who would never every buy it anyway actually plays it) but in reality are killing "second hand" market.[/citation]

This is most likely the reason they are doing the DRM, they are jealous of the secondary market and seem to think they can get all of that cash too. All protection does is stop casual copying, thats all it ever does. Well that, and pissing off the average consumer.

The CD-Key was fine for me for games like Diablo 2 and others I played online, but I like those mainly for off-line and lan modes mode. Why should I always have an active internet connection to be able to play? I've had it drop out on me for a couple days at a time due to bozos cutting fiber lines.

And there is nothing like a lan party with five or six good friends, pizza, beer and bad sci-fi movies. That is pretty much over since most lan based games are going away to online only.

Isnt Oblivion awesome? Skyrim will be awesome too. IMHO, I think that Blizzard isn't the one behind the scheme of constant connection. While what they say does have validity to prevent hacks on single player characters and moving them over to multiplayer side, I feel that this was done because of Activision. Since when did Blizzard ever have to think about sales? Almost all their games are top notch high quality. Greed? hmm maybe. But Activision is more greedy than the sum of its parts

[citation][nom]shin0bi272[/nom]No one is going to crack the drm on knitting nannies 9: quilt or die[/citation]

Nice! I almost spit my coffee on the screen, stop taht....

It's comical, people claiming to hate the company soooooo much, but still play their games so bad. There's a term for this: hypocrite. Yes, they're all hypocrites (and whiners too).

Yes, their DRM was a total success. I don't even read reviews or news about Ubisoft games any more. If I don't know what they do I'm not tempted to buy, pirate or talk about their products. Perfect boycott :)

I'm not much into cracking.. but if I was to build a DRM scheme, I would make sure some code is ran on the servers. For instance, I'd put current game progression state onto servers. A cracker could still be able to add assembly to read/store this state to local disk. Therefore, I would make sure some computation is done on the remote server. Then, a cracker would need to reverse engineer the executed code and build assembly that mimick it locally. Then I would make that remotly executed code use some large database of pre-computed values the make the game completly un-crackable in a reasonable amount of time.

Wow...

So far I notice most childish comments on this board.

Do you think UbiSoft cares about what you think? PC games are dying a fast death if you haven't noticed. Console games are the future of interactive gaming.

Ubisoft just proved how pointless it is to go after illegal copies of their games and just how small illegal copies hurt their business. Their DRM may have warded people off some, but the illegal versions out in the wild really did not hurt them. Illegally downloading is against the law and should not be condoned, but these publishers and movie producers need to understand that money is tight for people (this is not a excuse) and if they could only get a legal copy they would not buy the product, making them zero $$$, if people can get it illegally it costs these companies zero $$$.

"Have you been affected in a negative way as a result of Ubisoft DRM?"

Nope, as I refuse to buy their games with this particular DRM on it. Luckily for me, I'm not a fan of their games anyway.

I have assasin's creed 2 & brotherhood, no problem at all, though if by a chance face a problem with your internet connection, then u are doomed !!!

If all games were protected by DRM in an uncrackable fashion.. Would you stop playing PC games altogether? If you go out and buy their game on xbox or ps3.. they will make more money out of it and be able to pay for development costs (which are prohibitively high).. Therefore, less pirating = more money = lower selling price = happy customers. And BTW, don't bug me about how poor pirates are.. They have plenty of money to spend on WoW monthly subscriptions and even their 100+$/month cell phones bill! The only thing they will need to sacrifice will be the ability to play all games that exist for free.. Guys, read the reviews and pick a few games that you like and go buy them.

The DRM is crackable, and I have STILL stopped playing PC games. I don't think I will ever get 'back' into console games (N64 was so horrible, such a step down from SNES, I was done then) and so my gaming days are pretty much over. Just the F2P and timekiller games.

I still play Heroes 2/3 more often than any title I have bought since...
