I can see it now. Somebody, maybe "Anonymous", is going to eventually hack the UbiSoft servers and shut them down. Then the only people able to play the game will be those who pirated it. Ubisoft is going to have a lot of angry customers on their hands and it's going to cost them a lot of money and headaches.

I like to support good developers and their hard work buy actually paying for games, but I will be pirating Ubisoft games for now on because I don't want to lose access to my game if my internet goes out. I think Ubisoft is a bit naive thinking gamers are OK with that and that is will prevent pirating. It won't stop crackers for a second, they can get around it very easy. If anything it's going to ENCOURAGE pirating.

If you want to reduce pirating here's an idea. See you games directly form your website at a reduced rate. With no distributor taking a cut you should be able to sell it at a considerable discount by passing the saving to the customer.

Like others have said, this DRM didn't do any harm to pirates. Sure the first crack from the first game with this DRM took a bit longer, but since then you can find crack the next day from launch.

The only real copy protection is something like OnLive, but as long as the games on onlive are multiplatform, that doesn't count.

Dear Ubisoft, Strict DRM only hurts Legit buyers, and leashes the honest consumer. Piracy will go on, the DRM will be cracked, etc etc. IMHO strick DRM only makes a consumer more likely to A) not purchase or B) go through the hoops of piracy which include possible viruses and lots of wasted time. Honestly if I pay you, I should expect a happy experience not an experience like riding the "it" from South Park. If only you didn't see Piracy numbers as sales lost, things would be better. I'm sure a zero price tag increases demand, it's simple economics, not even close to everyone who pirates a title would buy it, most probably don't play it for more than 5min if at all. Don't be stupid Ubisoft, support your customers or drive them to piracy. You can't win against pirates, but you can win the respect of your paying customers. Gamers support things they love, so make shit we love, and take it to the bank! The only people making money on DRM are the DRM develpoment teams, and they must have a Nike sized marketing department, to associate reason to this compleatly idiotic idea. Such is the way of the world, to many people don't venture past the initial arguments which are valid idiocracy. It's too bad so much time is spent selling people what you know they don't need.

No sales from me. I boycotted these titles SPECIFICALLY due to that DRM.

I purchased Settlers 7 and had no problems for the first week. The second week, the Ubisoft servers kept disconnecting me. After enough of a hassle I downloaded the pirated version and played though just fine. My gaming experience on a pirated version was far superior to the DRM infected version. After this experience I will never pay for a game with the online all the time DRM again.

Settlers and Silent Hunter 5 both piqued my interest, but after seeing that they require an always-on connection, I refused to buy until after that restriction is lifted. I thought ubi would see the error of their ways, but I guess I just won't play Settlers 7 or Silent Hunter 5. Oh well, plenty of other companies make games too.

I'VE GIVEN UP! Last game I bought was Left 4 Dead, brought it home and found out it wasn't even in the BOX. Download this...download that! After a short time I noticed BLOOD and FIRE shooting out my eyes and took the CD and snapped it in two and cursed their ________ to a _________ _____ and may they have an unhappy V visit them November 5th.

a clear reduction in piracy of our titles which required a persistent online connection, and from that point of view the requirement is a success

When those statements are true, companies say how much extra money they got from it. That raises his shares.

Otherwise they make no mention to actual numbers, in hope that it raises his shares.

[citation][nom]spookyman[/nom]Wow...So far I notice most childish comments on this board. Do you think UbiSoft cares about what you think? PC games are dying a fast death if you haven't noticed. Console games are the future of interactive gaming.[/citation]

thats the most missinformed comment of thsi thread :) PC games always pushed devsand hardware. Consoles well... anyone can brush off some 7 year old code..

Spookyman every single company that releases an online DRM title says the exact same crap.... successful stupid remarks.... 99% of the games are cracked..... As for console games being the future, this is always a point put forward by both the gaming industry and the console users to hide the fact that most played (not bought) games are on the PC.....

I do not really see that kind of future in consoles when every single discussion ends up in the 15 million people WORLDWIDE (including all Asiatic countries) on the PC, when almost all online mmorpg games are on the PC....

If you take into account that according to game companies more than 30 million people play online games on the PC ( with an ever growing number) and pay a monthly subscription without even thinking of the cost, then that invalidates all console ruling claims...

Then also consider the fact that PC gaming has a somewhat different consumer cast of mind than console users in general.....

Due to the recent recession, now so visible in the states as well, when you will be faced with a rather gloomy economic situation you will start feeling very resentful for paying 70 dollars to buy a game that is either crap or lasts 30 hours tops....

If Skyrim is the game people expect it to be then everyone will buy it... Elder scroll die hard supporters will buy it no matter what...

But if the game ends up being another gothic 4 MAJOR FLOP then they will pirate it....

Piracy is not an excuse for playing games.... Game companies need to consider that they bring all that to themselves..

I bought HAWX 2 because it said it was an unlimited installs pack and was selling very cheap.

Turned out to be irritating, keeps patching itself and does other stupid things (that DRM games do). Needless to say it's a crap game, only thing i thought would be good was multiplayer.

Also turned out to be unlimited installs per account, and you can only have one account to hack it, so effectively it's still one install.

So that's cr*p. Never buying ubisoft games again.

And what is Ubisoft go bust? Not a far fetch thing these days! Their servers go down and so do your games.

Shit happens! Same thing for all theses services: gmail/facebook/hotmail/xboxlive/psn/your router/your ISP/etc... If they go down.. well.. do something else! I mostly play my games online (COD multiplayer, NHL, etc..) and when that happens, I read a book, rent a movie or go kayaking.. Your life does not depends on a game! Sure it sucks to be deconnected like the last PS3 network hack but life goes on..

I can't say about the relative stability of UBIsoft servers but I imagine they try their best to provide stable service..

UbiSoft DRM is not about piracy, it is about controlling the flow of information. Such as credit cards, address, postal codes etc..
They make more money selling your information than they do selling the
games. If they are using Always-Online DRM, it is only to be informed if
you have made any changes to the information they gather. This is Insider information direct from a good source.

Congrats Ubisoft, less people are pirating your game, but are pirates buying the game instead? No. And how many people didn't buy the game due to its ridiculous DRM? Lots. So what success is there?

😵 That's faaaaar fetched conspiracy, but if it's true, all the more reason to avoid DRM-infested games.

Big difference. These are purely ONLINE services, made for ONLINE interaction between people. Which cannot be said about single-player offline games! P.S. xboxlive/psn=BS, consoles=amateur junk 😛

Suck it NubiSoft! this is a horrible idea. I have boycotted these games and suggest you do the same. I will only play these games if they are cracked, just for the laugh.

Quick pool:

To all peoples who said they were boycotting DRM games:

1) How many games did you buy that were free of DRM/CDcheck/etc?

2) How many games did you pirate?

3) Of theses, how many would you have bought otherwise?

4) What is your gaming budget?

Be honest please.. Don't fake your answers to make a point.. It's only a pool..

Personnally, in the last 10 years, I must have pirated about 5-6 games (of which only 2-3 I played up to the end), bought more than 15 games.. And didn't really care about DRM/CDcheck except for Splinter Cell that had an horrible CD check that made the game exit 2/3 of the time so I downloaded the no-cd check crack for it. No budget limit on games but have at most 10-15 hours free time per week to play games..

I must plead ignorance on the subject of how easy it is to crack games, however I do have an opinion on the wisdom of doing so. IMHO it is self destructive behavior. Whether all you pirates like it or not, making games is a business and when it is no longer profitable it will end. What will you crack then? I use STEAM regularly without incident and believe it should be the template for future DRM.

Nothing can stop the pirates or crackers

Remember: Crackers are not the Pirates, if you pay for a game but you play Backup of that game, i don't think that you're a pirate because you paid for that game and it doesn't matter how you wanna play that.
